SITA presents BagJourney, a program that allows you to manage your luggage
In order to comply with the conditions of Resolution 753, airlines must track each item of luggage at four key points of the trip: at check-in, at the load to the aircraft, during the transfer and upon arrival
Global technology provider for air transport SITA announced that its BagJourney technology is managing baggage for an increasing number of airlines around the world. Only in the first six months of this year, more than 20 airlines chose that solution. SJ's BagJourney is one of the key technologies that helps the industry meet the requirements of IATA Resolution 753 that focuses on tracking all baggage at each stage of the trip.
In order to comply with the conditions of Resolution 753, airlines must track each item of luggage at four key points of the trip: at check-in, at the load to the aircraft, during the transfer and upon arrival. The biggest challenge that airlines and airports face is scanning at the point of transfer and arrival. In general, these are not areas of the airport where the scan was performed, so they require more attention and new infrastructure.
With a growing number of customers, SITA's luggage management technology is firmly established as the preferred solution for the air transport industry. Together, SITA's BagJourney customers handle hundreds of millions of bags each year, and these airlines are improving up to 30% on mismanagement rates.
Peter Drummond, Director of Baggage Solutions at SITA, said: "The IATA resolution has brought a clear focus on the potential for continuous improvement in terms of baggage management, we at SITA accept that challenge and are already helping to airlines and airports to quickly and efficiently meet the new tracking requirements.Working with our industry partners, we have developed new economic infrastructure improvements for BagJourney.
"The above offers an alternative between portable scanning devices and scanning arcs that are quick to install. Each airline and airport have different needs, so we have made sure that the various hardware options are easily integrated into our BagJourney solution with in order to get a quick implementation. "
John Fowler, Senior Director of Customer Service at BahamasAir, said: "SITA gave us several options to improve our baggage tracking." In just seven days, we moved from manual "bingo card" records to portable devices to track all bags in our two busiest destinations, Nassau and Miami After six months of tracking the baggage on our busiest route, we observed a 60% decrease in the number of claims due to improper baggage handling.
"Now we plan to implement the new technology in all our stations using a phased approach, we will have it in place in most of the destinations we fly to and hope to reach 100% in accordance with Resolution 753 before the end of the year. ease of hardware integration and sophisticated solution BagJourney has been the key to success. "
