Argentina closes a year of progress
Greater air connectivity, the organization of the WTTC and the digital promotion of the country in China were some of the milestones that were reached in 2018
For the Argentine Republic, 2018 meant a year of progress in tourism. The opening of our country to the outside world was reflected in the advance of the Aircraft Revolution, with a greater number of international flights and routes inaugurated.
The digital promotion also played a fundamental role and one of the great jobs was the positioning of Argentina in China, through Alibaba, the giant of electronic commerce of the Asian country.
To see in detail the journey of the last 12 months, here are the most important achievements:
-The low cost company Norwegian Airlines started flying from London to Buenos Aires since February 14th.
-Ethiopian Airlines began to unite Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, with Buenos Aires (via San Pablo) from the last March 8. In this way, Africa and Argentina are connected.
-From November 4, 2018, KLM operates a daily flight route Amsterdam-Buenos Aires.
-Edelweiss Air inaugurated the Zurich-Buenos Aires route on November 7. Switzerland and Argentina, united.
-As of December 19, 2018, American Airlines presents 3 weekly flights from Los Angeles to Buenos Aires. In April 2019, it will have 4 weekly flights from Miami to Córdoba.
-Air Europe announced that, from June 1, 2019, will fly from Madrid to Iguazú. This means that in only 9 hours, Europe will be connected to Argentina. The airline will have 2 weekly flights (Saturdays at 23.55 and Thursdays at 23.55 via Montevideo) from the Spanish capital to Puerto Iguazú, the city closest to the famous Iguazu Falls, in the province of Misiones.
One of the great results of 2018 was the promotion of Argentina in China. As of November, our country has a digital pavilion in Fliggy, the digital platform of the Alibaba Group, a prestigious Chinese holding company dedicated to electronic commerce.
The pavilion has information about destinations, novelties, experiences and Argentine products, among other attractions, to promote the national offer in a market of great potential such as China.
China's emissive tourism is the world leader, with 120 million tourists traveling around the world annually. In addition, projections indicate that by the year 2025 will be 220 million. The campaign is expected to reach a minimum of 500 million people.
However, the promotion in China was not only in Fliggy. Previously, at the end of August, Argentina began to promote its tourism offer in the Chinese social networks WeChat (it is the number one social network in China, with around 900 million monthly active users and 10 million accounts related to tourism) and Weibo (site that has more than 300 million active users).
Host of the world
On April 18 and 19, Argentina hosted the World Summit of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) for the first time. The event, which brought together global leaders from the tourism, political and social world, took place in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
The Secretariat of Tourism of the Nation, through the National Institute of Tourism Promotion (INPROTUR), participated in the main international fairs of the world. That's how he was present at FITUR, ANATO, ITB Berlin, WTM Latin America, ITB Asia, Top Resa, ABAV, FITPAR, TTG Incontri and WTM London, among others.
Promoting different destinations and showing their full potential was another of the great results obtained. During this year, there was a strong emphasis on the Coastal Ecotourism Corridor.
This corridor, characterized by its natural beauties, was made up of destinations in the provinces of Misiones (Iguazú and Moconá), Corrientes (Iberá), Chaco (El Impenetrable) and Formosa (Bañado La Estrella), but from April onwards were added between Rivers (National Parks Pre Delta and El Palmar) and Santa Fe (National Park Islands of Santa Fe and Jaaukanigás).
In relation to the Ecotourism Corridor, on December 5 the new Iberá National Park was established.
Along the same line as the Corridor, the future Ansenuza National Park was also given a great boost - it will be the largest protected area in the country - which includes the Laguna Mar Chiquita wetland and the Bañados del Río Dulce, in the Province of Córdoba. This destination was one of the main protagonists of the latest edition of Birdfair - the leading bird watching event worldwide.
In November, the Secretary of Tourism of the Nation, Gustavo Santos, presented the Underwater Park Las Grutas. It will be located in the town of Las Grutas, one of the main resorts in Patagonia, in the Province of Río Negro.
During the first days of the last month of 2018, Argentina premiered Unidigital, the first Tourism Innovation Center of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) of the continent.
The center, located in Puerto Madero, is the first digital innovation hub endorsed by the WTO. Here, services, products and digital innovation training for businesses and entrepreneurs in tourism are offered.
The hotel industry also achieved an important advance. Recently, the Gran Meliá Iguazú hotel, located in the Iguazú National Park, officially presented the reopening of its luxurious facilities.
In addition, other important hotels were opened, such as the Grand Brizo Hotel, Sofitel Recoleta, Palladio Hotel Buenos Aires MGallery by Sofitel, Howard Johnson Abasto and Amerian Grand View Congress (City of Buenos Aires), Hilton Pilar (Pilar), Days Inn (La Plata) ), Mérit Iguazú Hotel and Awasi Iguazú (Puerto Iguazú), Hotel Garden Plaza (San Miguel de Tucumán), Cyan Soho Hotel (City of Neuquén), Howard Johnson in the Thermal Park of Dolores (Dolores).
