January 16, 2019

Gianni Onorato, CEO of the company explains: "The reservation will bring something new and unique to our Caribbean itineraries from Miami and Havana and will become a truly memorable highlight for our guests"

An infinite view of the sea, crystal clear waters, soft white sand beaches with blue skies and lots of sunshine: this dream of paradise will become a reality for MSC Cruises guests when they visit the MSC Ocean Cay Marine Reserve. MSC Cruises, the world's largest privately owned cruise company, revealed more details about this unique island experience that will await guests as of November 9 this year.
With the MSC Ocean Cay Marine Reserve, MSC Cruises is transforming an old industrial sand extraction site into a thriving marine reserve and a private destination, where the island will exist in harmony with the local ecosystem. Ocean Cay has been designed to immerse guests in the natural beauty of its surroundings. The vision is to create a sustainable destination with activities that allow guests to connect with nature, as well as provide opportunities to learn about the protection of the oceans and the importance of preserving coral reefs through educational entertainment programs.
Around the island are 64 square miles of protected waters and a coral nursery is being formed to encourage and sustain the growth of new corals. Plans are underway for a marine laboratory located on Ocean Cay that will investigate corals resistant to climate change, in the hope of providing information on habitats on similar islands.

Gianni Onorato, CEO of MSC Cruises, explains: "The MSC Ocean Cay Marine Reserve will bring something new and unique to our Caribbean itineraries from Miami and Havana and will become a truly memorable highlight for our guests. We have created an experience for guests that complements the natural beauty of this extraordinary part of the Caribbean. It was not necessary for us to build extensively on an island that already had the ingredients of a natural paradise. However, we have undertaken comprehensive work to clean up the island, removing tons of historic industrial waste and helping the beaches and the 64 square miles of protected waters that surround the island return to their natural state. "
Onorato continued: "For the services to guests on the island, we have maintained authenticity and designed an experience that will allow them to simply enjoy nature at its best. The boat is an integral part of the experience, as a dock has been built so that guests can easily come and go to the boat throughout the day making full use of the facilities on shore and on board. "

Sand, sea, sky and uninterrupted sun
With more than two miles of white sandy beach formed by the best sand of aragonite in the world, guests can choose from seven different beaches, each with its own charm and character to disconnect from everything with warm sand between the toes and the sound of the ocean. For those looking for something more active, there will be beach games and water sports.
Sunbeds will be available on all beaches and some will offer cabins that can be rented for the day. The crystal clear shallow waters of the Great Lagoon are perfect for protected swimming and water sports, while the smaller family lagoon is designed for the enjoyment of the little ones, with shallow, calm waters and lots of games. With more than a half mile long, the Great Bimini Beach is the largest stretch of beach on the island, as well as the place to go to enjoy a variety of water sports.

Discover and explore
The Ocean Cay excursions will allow guests to explore, discover, relax and enjoy the beauty of nature at its best. It is possible to discover the waters surrounding the island through snorkeling, kayaking and rowing. The Family Explorer club will also offer fun activities for the whole family.
For those looking for a truly special experience, Ocean Cay guests can privately rent a smaller island near the main body to spend the day and this will include: a private boat available to take the group to the island and stay in its place; a tent, hammocks and sunbeds; food and drinks. Near the island there is an old shipwreck, which makes it a wonderful place to snorkel.
