Thu January 24, 2019

Jorge Mario Chajón, General Director of Inguat, received the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Central American Tourist Integration System

In the FITUR 2019 Framework, Guatemala, Heart of the Mayan World, receives the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Tourism Integration System of Central America. Jorge Mario Chajón, General Director of Inguat made a speech in which he commented: "We have advanced in the innovation of the promotion and commercialization of the multi-destination product in the digital world for the strengthening of the tourist integration of the isthmus".

It is worth remembering that Guatemala receives the presidency that it occupied during the last 6 months Belize. Chajón acknowledged the work carried out by the authorities of the Caribbean destination and promised to deliver the presidency to El Salvador in July, having exceeded the ambitious objectives.

A symbolic fact has been that during the opening of the FITUR, the Central American Pavilion was inaugurated and Jorge Mario Chajón was in charge of cutting the ribbon in the company of many officials from the different destinations in the region.

The promotion of tourist sites in Guatemala in Europe will allow the growth of eight percent in the number of visitors from the region to the Central American country, informed the Guatemalan Tourism Institute today.

About participation in FITUR Jorge Mario Chajón mentioned: "This fair will allow us to promote Guatemala as a tourist destination and expand our business portfolio, both in the Spanish market and in other European nations and be in travel catalogs of the major wholesalers of the Old Continent".

The director also emphasized the importance of Spain as a key country that opens doors to other strategic markets such as Italy, France, United Kingdom, Germany and Holland, among others.

"Spain is the entry and exit for tourism in Europe. From the Madrid-Barajas airport most of the flights that come to Guatemala come out, and Europe is one of the strategic markets for us, "he said.

According to the authorities, 18 companies (17 tour operators and a hotel academy) are offering their services during the event.

Inguat plans to hold meetings between Guatemalan and international businessmen that will allow the completion of approximately 6,800 businesses with a profit in tourism.
