FITUR closed the doors of its most international edition

The International Tourism Fair, FITUR 2019, today closes its 39th edition with large attendance figures in which it has also been the largest and most international convocation held to date. A few hours after its closure and in a first balance of results it is estimated that it has received more than 253,000 participants. The 1.8% growth in professional presence stands out during the first three days of the fair, in which 142,642 participants from all over the world have registered. In the international chapter, the increase was 8.9%.
In coincidence with the good health of the tourism sector, both in Spain and internationally, FITUR, which once again was inaugurated at IFEMA by Los Reyes de España, has once again demonstrated its capacity for representation in a powerful edition that has placed to Madrid in the focus of attention of the entire international tourism community. This is revealed by the presence of 886 incumbent companies, 8.3% more than in 2018, and 10,487 companies from 165 countries and regions, along 67,495 m2, which has represented a growth of 2.5%, and the occupation of 9 pavilions of Feria de Madrid. A movement of people that has generated in the city an economic impact of approximately 325 million euros
In global terms, the national presence has grown 6% this year, and the international one, which already represents 55% of the participation share in FITUR, has done so by 11%, led by the increase in Africa's participation ( 15%) and Europe (13%).
It also highlights the high business activity concentrated in the professional days of FITUR, with an agenda that has generated 9,150 B2B meetings with international buyers, as a result of the meetings organized by FITUR in its Workshop Hosted Buyer, the B2B programs of Investur and FITUR Health, to which has been added this year FITUR MICE, the new networking space specializing in incentive tourism, meetings and business travel, launched in collaboration with GSAR Marketing, as well as 49,711 appointments requested in the digital agenda and thousands of bilateral meetings held at the stands themselves
FITUR has also received about 700 different authorities, including ministers from 62 countries, ambassadors and representatives from all over the world, presidents and advisors from all the Autonomous Communities, and has accredited more than 7,500 journalists from 68 countries to carry out the information coverage of the fair.
Regarding the novelties of this edition, note the wide deployment of the Dominican Republic, as Country Socio Fitur, with the presence of 32 companies in its stand, and a great visibility of the brand "It has everything" that has been settled with hundreds of business meetings, especially with travel agencies and tour operators.
Another of the great novelties has been the presentation of the FITUR NEXT OBSERVATORY, which in the next three years will act as a platform to identify, analyze and disseminate tourism models that generate a positive impact on the experiences of visitors, the lives of residents, the development of destinies and the balance of the planet. Another novelty was the presentation of the new monographic section FITUR CINE, dedicated to connecting the tourist industry with the film industry, and FITUR ES MUSICA, a festival of urban and alternative music held within the framework of FITUR FESTIVALS with its double music program live, on January 25 and 26.
In the chapter on technology and intelligent tourism, the sections FiturtechY 2019, and Fitur Know-How & Export, have brought together solutions and proposals of authentic avant-garde; FITUR GAY (LGBT +), has been developed under the motto "50th Anniversary Stonewall New York, and FITUR SALUD highlighted by the growth of the international presence, in parallel with the own global development of health tourism.
FITUR2019 also consolidates its leadership in the communication strategy in social networks of tourism fairs, reaching more than 84 million users on social networks. The fair has had assets to almost 15,000 users who have posted on Twitter with the hashtag # FITUR2019.
The next edition of FITUR will be held from January 22 to 26, under the new direction of María Valcarce, who takes over from Ana Larrañaga, who after 19 years running FITUR, now becomes part of the IFEMA Management Committee and the entire Fair Business.
María Valcarce has developed her entire professional career at IFEMA, leading, firstly, the group of fairs in the motor world and, later, the portfolio of industrial fairs to which different appointments have been added. Currently, in addition to FITUR, he runs the CLIMATIZACION Y REFRIGERACIÓN, GENERA, SICUR and SMART DOORS fairs.
