Visit Quito is an unforgettable experience, its Historic Center is the best preserved and the most extensive in America. There are 320 hectares with 40 churches, 16 convents and monasteries and around 5000 heritage buildings.
Its republican buildings remain as living witnesses of the architectural legacy of the time and the samples of the Baroque school remain almost intact with the passage of time, as is the case of the Society of Jesus.
The churches and religious buildings of the historic center of Quito are undoubtedly one of the finest gems of the city, and are not only of interest to devout Catholics. These monuments exhibit the culture of the city, history and art through the centuries.
You can not miss San Francisco, the largest religious complex in Latin America located in the same square as Casa Gangotena, which gives the hotel some of its best views. It was the first church in Quito and the most significant for religious culture.
One of the best neo-gothic illustrations in the region, the Basilica del Voto Nacional is adorned with Ecuadorian animals that seem to be frozen in stone. The view seen from its towers makes the climb to reach the summit worthwhile, and also the vertigo. These three attractions are hardly an appetizer: there are many churches and convents waiting to be discovered in the mysterious streets of Quito.
Not only is the Historic Center of the city the best model of architecture and history of the city, it is also the cultural hub, with theaters and live music.
The National Theater Sucre is the best theater of the historic center, both in aesthetics and history as well as in the quality of its presentations. Opened in 1886, the grand neoclassical building houses the city's renowned international jazz festival, as well as high-octane musicals and operas.
By day or by night, La Ronda is the ideal place for entertainment: in the day, the narrow and historic street is full of peculiar shops selling chocolates, straw hats and handicrafts, and when the night comes, La Ronda offers the best nightlife full of street artists and attractive bars with salsa and dance shows.
