Today opened a new edition of ITB Berlin
The fair gathers more than 100,000 professional visitors in the German capital. It will run until March 10 and will have more than 10,000 exhibiting companies from 181 countries
The ITB Berlin tourism fair, which will open its doors between March 6 and 10, hopes to break its record with the participation of 10,000 companies representing 180 countries, in its 53rd edition, which, according to its organizers, will be the "most sustainable, digital and international ", which will occupy 26 classrooms.
The ITB Berlin is one of the biggest tourist events in Europe with Fitur in Madrid, the first on the calendar, or the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, which will be held next November.
His transfer to the CityCube congress center, next to Messe Berlin, has allowed to create more spaces for the events and even increase by 20% the area dedicated to the technology of the rapidly expanding travel, as announced by its organizers.
In this edition highlights the presence of the Asian market and is that places like India, Asia or the Arab countries increase their presence at the fair. Among those who exhibit for the first time are Karma Group, which markets exclusive 5-star hotels, and the international tour operator Global DMC Network of JTB Group of Japan. The General Investment Authority of Saudi Arabia also participates for the first time.
The ITB closed last year with a total of 110,000 visitors, representing a slight increase of 0.9% over 2017, with an increase of 5% in the volume of business generated compared to last year. The weekend, open to the general public, received 60,000 visitors.
Parallel to the fair will be held the ITB Berlin Convention, from 6 to 9 March, a free access conference for professionals and exhibitors in which will discuss the four challenges: climate change, innovative forms of transport, excessive tourism and changing demands of travelers.
In addition, the ITB will host the 3rd edition of Travel Tech, in which nine Spanish technology companies related to tourism will participate. Travel Tech is an initiative promoted by ICEX Spain Export and Investment together with Segittur, in collaboration with the Economic and Commercial Office of Berlin.
In recent years, the segment of technological developments for the tourism industry is growing exponentially, with initiatives ranging from search engines, applications to facilitate hotel beds reservations, apps development for the subsectors and virtual reality, among others.
