Mexico promotes its destinations at ITB Berlin
Mexican officials conduct a series of business meetings with some of the most important tourism companies worldwide
The Ministry of Tourism is still working to promote the image of Mexico in the world, to publicize the new tourism products and strategies of the current administration, headed by the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, assured the Secretary of Tourism federal, Miguel Torruco Marqués.
In Berlin, Germany, when initiating its participation in the ITB Fair, one of the most important in the world, held a series of business meetings with some of the most important tourism companies worldwide, in addition to inaugurating the Mexican pavilion and granting interviews with the media.
For example, after meeting with Norbert Fiebig, president of the National Association of Tour Operators and Travel Agencies of Germany, Torruco Marqués highlighted the relevance of this ITB 2019 tourism fair, because, he said: "this is where negotiations are gestated of bidders and claimants, in order to increase tourist flows ".
He stressed that Europe already represents the third most important region in terms of tourism for Mexico, registering 12.4 percent of the total market of that region, headed by the United Kingdom, followed by Spain and Germany which is in third place, above France.
He noted that at the end of 2018, about 290,000 German tourists visited Mexico, by air, which represented an increase of 4.5 percent, compared to the previous year. Germany is located in the eighth position of the nations that contribute more hospitalization tourism to our country, with an important spill in the order of 267.5 million dollars.
He commented that visitor spending was also increased in the cities most visited by tourists from Germany, which are still Cancun and Mexico City, followed by Monterrey, Guadalajara and San Luis Potosí; Lufthansa - added - is the airline that contributes the large percentage of tourists who visit our country.
Secretary Torruco Marqués explained to Norbert Fiebig the projects of the administration of President López Obrador, including that the Mayan Train will be the great six-year project. For his part, the manager was interested in the journey and the points that this train will touch.
Also, the head of the Sectur met with the director of International Relations for Latin America and Africa of Lufthansa, Andreas Bulling, and the Corporate and Government Relations Director of the German airline, Tobias Hienrich.
He added that in both meetings he told German executives that in Mexico there are new tourism products "that we are creating throughout the country and also the incentive that the government gave in tax matters on the border with the lowering of taxes and that it causes the border strip to detonate. "
He explained that other topics discussed at the meetings were the "Chepe" Train of Chihuahua, as well as the investments that continue to flow in the sector. "I cordially invited them to be with us in Mexico City and also in the next Tourism Tianguis," Torruco added.
