Hotel associations from 25 countries around the world met in Barcelona, Spain, in order to analyze the impact that technology platforms, which commercialize informal lodging establishments, are causing among the legal hotel industry due to the unfair competition they generate and the inequality conditions that they impose on the hotel sector around the world.
The attendees discussed different strategies that recommend applying worldwide and, in addition, signed a guidance document that contains the recommended actions to governments.
"This is a struggle that has been around the world for several years now, and Colombia is not the exception, we are working together with the National Government to establish mechanisms that oblige the platforms to announce only establishments that comply with Colombian regulations. In this way, fair competition will be generated, with equal conditions for all; Without a doubt, the platforms are an interesting showcase for hotels, but they must be managed under parameters of legality and equity, "said Gustavo Adolfo Toro Velásquez, Cotelco's national executive president.
On the other hand, the meeting agreed to hold a forum to raise the discussion of this problem to other international spheres, in order to solve this issue that has hit the international hotel industry.
