Uruguay extends tax benefits to tourists
A large part of the costs associated with the visit - such as lodging, car rental and gastronomic services - are subject to the return of 22% by the State
Maybe not many know it, but if they decide to travel with tourist reasons to Uruguay, they will be able to obtain important fiscal benefits. In particular, a large part of the costs associated with the visit - such as lodging, car rental and gastronomic services - are subject to the return of 22% by the State, corresponding to value added taxes (VAT).
While this benefit was already being applied to all tourists visiting this country, the Minister of Tourism of Uruguay, Liliam Kechichian, announced that this would extend until October 31 of this year, to give greater competitiveness as a tourist destination not only in summer period.
As reported by the Uruguayan Secretary of State, for the benefit to be applicable, tourists must make their payments through electronic money, debit or credit cards, and will include gastronomic services, catering services -for holding parties and events- leasing vehicles without driver and real estate with tourist destination.
Regarding the reasons why the Latin American tourist decides to travel to Uruguay, Minister Kechichian pointed out that "the price of the dollar is not the only factor and the emphasis on the exchange rate should not be placed alone. In the last 15 years, Uruguay, in tourism, has multiplied its income by four and increased, from 1.8 million to 4 million, the number of tourists.
The latest official figures indicate that, in 2017, Uruguay received 64 thousand Chileans, with sustained growth year after year. Therefore, during 2019 they will seek to continue captivating more compatriots, offering beautiful landscapes, cultural landscapes, an exquisite gastronomy, fiscal benefits and a change that favors our currency.
