The Ecuadorian destination has grown 500% and has become a benchmark to follow closely
Guayaquil is a port city in Ecuador, known as the gateway to the Pacific beaches and the Galapagos Islands. It is one of the most emerging destinations in the world for the meetings segment and during Fiexpo we had the chance to interview Gloria Gallardo Zavala, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Company Municioal de Turismo de Guayaquil. The official commented: "Fiexpo is the opportunity to strengthen us as a destination for MICE International, we just started to promote ourselves 2 and a half years ago with our Convention Bureau, we have worked in a planned way with the objective of growing. According to the ICCA of 545, we were 143 and now we are 16 in Latin America, while worldwide we have 5600 cities, rising from 460 to 143 ".
"We have achieved this on our own, without the support of the national government." The mayor of Guayaquil has made great progress with a large airport, free Wi-Fi in the city, great terrestrial connectivity and important international chain hotels present.
"We have been able to carry out 142 international events since we began, which contributed 300,000 nights of occupation and a great spill."
"Issuing markets are mainly Latino, but we are also working very hard in Europe and the United States, because we are at the center of the world, working with ICCA gives us a lot of information to postulate our destiny practically all over the world. the connectivity since we have been able to recover the airline routes with direct connections to the key markets".
