Mexican tourism increases in Peru

Peru registered an increase of 18% of Mexican travelers who visited the destination in the first four months of the year


The offer of culture, nature, adventure and gastronomy that Peru offers is increasingly attractive for Mexican travelers, who find in Peru a diverse, hospitable, fun destination, and that invites you to try typical dishes with history; therefore, Peru is positioned as the favorite destination of this 2019 among Mexicans.
So far this year, more than 1.4 million foreign tourists visited Peru, registering an increase of 2.7% compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the first quarter of this 2019, more than 34 thousand Mexican tourists chose Peru as their travel destination, which represents 18% more than the same period of 2018, with April being one of the months of greatest growth when registering 48 %.
"Mexico is a priority market for Peru and it is a challenge for us to maintain the sustained growth that it has presented in the last 5 years," said María Soledad Acosta, Director of Tourism Promotion of the Peruvian Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism. (PROMPERÚ).
It should be noted that PROMPERÚ continues to work hard to promote its tourist destinations in Mexico, putting on display the various attractions and possible activities to be carried out in each region.
The Peruvian Amazon has been attracting more Mexicans besides Cusco, Puno and Arequipa. Cruise trips along the Amazon River and shelters located in the middle of the Peruvian jungle have become one of the experiences with the greatest demand.

According to a study prepared by PROMPERÚ, the Mexican market is the second largest source of tourists to Peru from North America, with an average expenditure of US $ 1,169, while the average foreign tourist arriving in Peru is US $ 946. In addition, the stay of each Mexican visitor is 10 days, 43% visit Peru for holidays and the preferred destinations are Lima, Cusco, Puno and Arequipa.
It should be noted that tourism is one of the main economic activities in Peru, contributing 3.9% of the national GDP and generating about 1.3 million jobs in the different services that are part of the tourism chain such as hotels, restaurants, transportation terrestrial, travel agencies, tourist guides, among others.
