ANATO accompanies the Government in a visit to Villavicencio
The city receives 80% of the foreign visitors who arrive at the Meta. For the first 4 months of the year a total of 1,749 foreign visitors were registered, 10% more than for the same period of 2018
The Association today will be accompanying the President of the Republic, Iván Duque Márquez; to the delegation of ministers; and the deputy minister in charge of Tourism, Karol Fajardo, at the meeting that will take place throughout the day in Villavicencio, on the occasion of the announcement about the measures to face the problems that the region is experiencing, due to the temporary closure of the road that connects to Bogotá with the capital of Meta
"It will evaluate what is the true impact on tourism at this juncture. There are currently a total of 182 Travel Agencies that live from this industry and we want to support them together with our Central Chapter, to which these Meta companies belong, looking for alternatives in favor of the reactivation of their activity, "said Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.
The trade union leader also said that this situation is worrisome, considering that not only the Meta is affected but also departments like Cundinamarca, Casanare and Guaviare. It should be noted that despite the fact that Caño Cristales, a destination that is increasingly important in tourism in our country, has not had a greater impact due to the fact that its access is by air, he concluded.
According to the connectivity report of April 2018, provided by ProColombia and the AeroCivil, Villavicencio has a total of 20 weekly frequencies. Avianca operates 13 on the Bogotá-Villavicencio route; and Satena operates 7 on the Mitú-Villavicencio, Puerto Carreño-Villavicencio routes; and Puerto Inírida-Villavicencio. Similarly, Easyfly established, since last May, four temporary flights to cover the Bogota-Villavicencio route, covered by Resolution 00839 of March 28, 2019, through which airlines can operate flights to regions of the country affected by terrestrial connectivity. In turn, Easyfly announced the operation of the Villavicencio-Medellín route through two flights.
According to Migración Colombia, between January-April 2019, a total of 1,973 foreign visitors have reached the Meta, 16% more than in the same period of the previous year. And in 2018, the months that recorded the highest number of foreign flows to the department were: December with 786; June with 694; July with 673; and October with 631.
As for Villavicencio, the city receives 80% of the foreign visitors that arrive at the Meta. For the first 4 months of the year, a total of 1,749 foreign visitors were registered, 10% more than for the same period of 2018, according to Migración Colombia, and of this total of visitors, 76% enter the department for reasons of tourism. It is important to note that the United States and Mexico are the countries from which the majority of foreigners who visit Villavicencio come from.
