Mexico adds three long weekends that will boost tourism
Sectur and SEP added new holidays in September, April and May according to the information provided by the Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco Marqués
In a joint effort, the Secretariats of Tourism and Public Education managed to include in the school calendar three new long weekends for the period 2019-2020, informed the head of the first, Miguel Torruco Marqués.
The Secretary of Tourism indicated that, in coordination with the Secretary of Education, Esteban Moctezuma Barragán, it was agreed to establish these new rest periods, which will boost tourism activity throughout the country.
He explained that these three long weekends have the objective of contributing to the promotion of domestic tourism, which represents 67 percent of the national hotel occupancy.
The dates that will be added are: from Friday the 13th to Monday the 16th of September; from Thursday 30 April to Tuesday 5 May 2020 and from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 May.
Torruco Marqués added that the expectations for these vacation periods are, for the September, an average hotel occupancy of 64.3 percent, with the arrival of one million 652 thousand tourists staying at the hotel, and a spill of four thousand 653 million pesos .
For the April-May, the occupation percentage is estimated at 67.7 percent, with an arrival of two million 115 thousand travelers to hotels and an expense of five thousand 860 million pesos.
The third and last of the 2019-2020 school year, which will be in May, projects an occupancy rate of 64.2 percent, with one million 334 thousand tourists staying at the hotel and an outlay of three thousand 757 million pesos.
"Considering the three new bridges included in the school calendar released by the SEP, together they represent an average hotel occupancy of 65.39 percent, the arrival of five million 101 thousand tourists to hotel rooms and an economic income of 14 thousand 270 million of pesos ", said Torruco Marqués.
He added that other periods of vacation that will be registered in this school year, already established, are from Friday 15 to Monday 18 November 2019, in which an occupation of 67.1 percent is expected, with one million 813 thousand passengers and an important spill of four thousand 904 million pesos.
The next, and first of next year, will be from Friday, January 31 to Monday, February 3, with an occupancy rate estimated at 62.7 percent and the arrival of one million 564 thousand visitors to hotel rooms, at a cost of four thousand 557 million pesos.
Then come the long weekend from Friday 13 to Monday 16 March, for which an occupancy of 65.1 percent is expected, the arrival of one million 704 thousand tourists to hotels, and a spill of four thousand 722 million pesos.
Finally, Miguel Torruco reiterated that the three bridges that are added to the calendar "will be positive to promote a greater opportunity for family coexistence, the increase of domestic tourism and consumption, dynamically driving the entire productive chain especially benefit the population local destinations, "he said.
