This summer, international tourism will leave a spill of US $ 760 million in Mexico
The number of travelers arriving from abroad is projected at 3836000, up 1.4 percent from last year
In the next holiday summer period, foreign tourists will produce an economic spill of 3,776 million dollars, which will represent a 15.5 percent increase over the same period of July-August last year.
The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, informed this during the opening, this afternoon, in the space Punto Mexico of the Ministry of Tourism, the exhibition of products Queretaro in this site, where the governor of that entity, Francisco Domínguez Servien, announced the beginning of the harvest parties in its entity, the second largest wine region in Mexico, he said.
During the event, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) added that, according to projections of this unit, the total number of tourists staying in the hotel during the summer holiday will be 15 969 thousand 723 people, 2.61 per one hundred more than in 2018.
He said that of this amount, 3 million 836 thousand 499 will be international travelers, who will surpass thus in 1.4 percent those who arrived last summer. Therefore domestic tourists will reach 12 million 133 thousand 224, which means an increase of 3 percent.
Torruco Marqués said that domestic tourists staying at the hotel will spend 36 thousand 574 million pesos, equivalent to 1,925 million dollars, reflecting an increase of 3.6 percent, compared to the same period of 2018.
In addition, he said that the average hotel occupancy during the holidays mentioned above is anticipated at 63.9 percent, which is 1.2 percentage points less than last year, as room supply grew 2 percent in the last year.
Likewise, the Ministry of Tourism announces that the expenditure of domestic tourists who will be housed in houses of family or friends, as well as domestic visitors without overnight stay, will be 40 thousand 284 million pesos, that is to say: 2 thousand 120 million of dollars, 3.4 percent more than in the previous year.
Moreover, Torruco Marqués pointed out that the number of passengers on domestic flights in the indicated period will reach 9 million 187 thousand 514, with a growth of 4.1 percent.
"With regard to passengers on international flights arriving at different airports in Mexico, we estimate that there will be 4 million 242,945 people, which will mean an increase of 1.4 percent compared to similar period of 2018," he concluded.
It was also reported that it is expected that the destinations that will be most visited by Mexicans on this holiday that are already approaching will be Mexico City, with 14.4 percent of travelers; Acapulco, 10 percent; Cancún, 5.47; Guadalajara, 5.3; Veracruz, 4.8; Puebla, 4.1 and Mazatlan, with 3.5 percent. These 7 destinations will cover 47.3 percent of the total domestic travelers.
As for foreign tourists, its main destination will be Cancun, where it will reach 26.1 percent; followed by Riviera Maya, with 22.2; Mexico City, 9.2; Los Cabos, 7.4; Mazatlan, 5.2 and Guadalajara, with 2.9 percent.
The main issuing markets will be: the United States, with 59.8 percent; Canada, 5.2; United Kingdom, 4.1; Colombia, 3.2; Spain, 3.0; Argentina, 2.3; Brazil, 2.0; France, 1.7; Peru, 1.6 and Germany, with 1.4 percent.
