According to ALTA, airlines in Latin America and the Caribbean transported 24.7 million passengers in May

 


The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) reports that airlines in Latin America and the Caribbean transported 24.7 million passengers in May, which represents an increase of 4.8% with respect to the previous year (see table 1). Traffic (RPK) grew 4.4% and capacity (ASK) increased by 3.6%, bringing the load factor to 81.1%, equivalent to 0.6 percentage points more than in May 2018.

Latin American and Caribbean airlines transported 2.6 million passengers to and from the region in May, which represents an increase of 6.8% over 2018 (see table 2). Traffic (RPK) grew 7.1% and capacity (ASK) grew 5.3%, bringing the load factor to 83.6%.

The airlines of Latin America and the Caribbean transported 18.6 million domestic passengers in May, which represents an increase of 5.7% with respect to 2018 (see table 2). Traffic (RPK) grew 5.3% and capacity (ASK) grew 5.5%, bringing the load factor to 79%.

Latin American and Caribbean airlines transported 6.1 million international passengers in May, of which 3.5 million were international passengers within the region and 2.6 million outside the region. Argentina-Brazil was the most important intra-regional market while Mexico-USA was the most important extraregional market.
