When attending yesterday the celebration of the "Day of the travel agent" and the 74th anniversary of the Mexican Association of Travel Agents (AMAV), the head of the Ministry of Tourism Miguel Torruco Marqués said that the results of the accumulated in the January period -mayo of the present year register an entrance of foreign currency by foreign tourists of 11 thousand 66 million dollars, which represents an increase of 14 percent, with respect to the same period of last year.
This is the spill that left the 18.2 million international tourists who arrived in Mexico in the first five months of 2019, 5.9 percent higher than that registered in January-May 2018.
The head of Sectur also reported that in the period indicated the average expenditure of hospitalization tourists was 958.6 dollars, which means an increase of 14 percent; while the Tourism Balance recorded a favorable balance of 7 thousand 200 million dollars, amount higher in 36.2 percent than observed in the first five months of last year.
He added that during May the six cities that account for 94 percent of the total arrivals of travelers from abroad to Mexico: Cancun, Mexico City, Los Cabos, Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta and Monterrey showed significant growth, "despite the critical comments of our adversaries, "he said.

He stated that this association is the second oldest tourist organization in Latin America, which has been consolidated by its representation in the more than five thousand travel agencies that exist in the country, with more than a thousand partners working with levels of competence and worldwide quality.
Torruco Marqués said that travel agents remain the best promoters of Mexico's destinations, projecting national and international tourist, cultural and natural resources.

To this end, Torruco Marqués has been meeting with governors, state secretaries of tourism, investors, and presidents of Chambers, Associations, Confederations and organizations of the sector, with the idea, in addition, to join efforts so that each state develops a product " Anchor "and, from there, configure complementary tourist circuits that detonate the economy of the plaza, the entity and the region.
For example, he added, already works in Yucatan in various routes: the Nostalgia, which includes several sites linked to the life of the great composer Armando Manzaneros; the one of the Haciendas; and Henequén, Artesanías and Xtabentún.
Also, in Durango will be a renovated Villa del Oeste; and in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, with the Mar de Cortes Aquarium, which will be the largest in Latin America.
