Surfside prohibits disposable plastic bags to take care of its beaches
Fri August 02, 2019

The new ban is based on an ordinance passed in 2018 that eliminates plastic sorbets and prohibits the distribution, sale or use of single-use plastic bags

Surfside joins the global movement to ban disposable plastic bags for the environment and the world's oceans - the growing evidence of the harmful impacts of single-use plastics on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and the desire to improve their policies for Environmental management has prompted Surfside, a charming coastal community in Miami-Dade County, to ban its use. The new ban is based on an ordinance passed in 2018 that eliminates plastic sorbets and prohibits the distribution, sale or use of single-use plastic bags in any commercial establishment, facility and municipal property or by any special events committee. It will take effect later this year and will take effect in early March 2020 to give time for a public education campaign. The Surfside City Commission also recently committed to
Participate in the Resilient305 Program. Other municipal initiatives include urging the United States Congress to pass the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividends Act, establish a Clean Energy District Assessed (PACE), adopt a photovoltaic solar energy incentive program and other sustainability initiatives for residents and businesses in the area and pass a resolution of zero omissions and clean energy on buses.
