Peru will be a guest country of the ANATO 2020 Tourist Showcase
In 2018, a total of 171,519 Colombians traveled to Peru, 6.5% more than the 161,000 of 2017
Peru has become a tourist destination par excellence, not only for the history and magic of its cities but for the particular flavors of its gastronomy, which both attract the attention of travelers from Latin America and the rest of the world.
After Peru expressed interest in participating as a guest country of honor in the 39th version of the ANATO Tourist Showcase, which will take place from February 26 to 28, the Association's Board of Directors decided to carry it out.
“We are pleased to announce this news. We have seen how the numbers of Colombians visiting this neighboring country and Peruvians who come to know Colombia have had a constant growth. We want the great cultural, adventure, nature and gastronomic potential to be known throughout the industry and that more Travel Agencies incorporate this destination into their packages, ”said Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.
According to Migration Colombia data, a total of 156,000 foreign visitors from Peru were registered in 2018, which means 7% more than the 145,575 revealed in 2017.
Traditionally Peru has been one of the main emitters of tourists to our country, being in the top 10, however, its growth has been more noticeable during 2019, because for the period January-June, according to the same source, already there are 87,346 records of Peruvian visitors in Colombia, with a growth of 19% (the highest in this top).
Currently, Peru is the fifth largest issuer of travelers to Colombia, after the United States, Argentina, Mexico and Brazil. And the most visited Colombian cities are Bogotá, Cartagena Medellín and San Andrés.
It should be noted that according to the Quarterly Sample of Foreign Trade in Services of the DANE (MTCES), Peru was one of the countries that grew most in its contribution to the total income of foreign currency to Colombia in the first quarter of 2019, being only surpassed by U.S.
In turn, in terms of outbound tourism, Peru has also been an important destination for Colombians, since in 2018 a total of 171,519 Colombians traveled to this country, 6.5% more than the 161,007 registered in 2017.
In addition, for the course of 2019 (January-June), there has also been a positive behavior regarding the departures of Colombians to Peru, with a total of 92,627, a figure that increases by 16% compared to the same period of the previous year , according to Migration Colombia.
“There is much to know about this country and what better scenario to do it than in the event that has positioned itself as the most important in its field in Colombia and a reference in the Latin American market, which opens space for contact between the different actors of the industry and develops promotional and commercial activities that contribute to both inbound and outbound tourism, ”concluded the union leader.
