This was stated this morning by Miguel Torruco Marqués, Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, when inaugurating the fourth edition of the International Congress of the Women's Association of Tourism Business Executives (AFEET), who added that, in this context, the dependence on his The position has also had to rethink the tourism policy that had been applied in recent decades, "with measures that may not be liked at first, because they disrupt some interests or simply because of resistance to change."

Consequently, he explained, in these first months of the current federal administration the work of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) has focused on creating strategies based on the positioning achieved and the important tourism potential of the country, in which the bases reside for the construction of a more prosperous, more balanced tourism with a vision of development for all.

"Thus, under these principles, and with the active participation of various actors in the tourism sector, we have maintained a growth rate," said Torruco Marques.

Therefore, he stated that, according to information from INEGI, during the first half of this year, the capture of foreign exchange grew 13.9 percent, registering an economic spill of 11 thousand 915 million dollars, as a result of the arrival of 22.1 million dollars. international tourists, seven percent more than in the same period of 2018.

Likewise, the average expenditure of these tourists who entered the country by air and land reached $ 927.8, 12.3 percent higher than last year; while the Tourist Balance shows a positive balance 34.3 percent higher.

In the same way, and based on information from the Migration Policy Unit of the Ministry of the Interior, the head of Sectur said that in the six main airports of the country, where 92.4 percent of the arrival of international tourists is concentrated , there is a constant growth in the arrival of foreign travelers: Cancun registered a slight increase of 0.5 percent; Mexico City, 4 percent; Los Cabos, of 3.37 percent; Puerto Vallarta, 1.8 percent; Guadalajara, 4.3 percent and Monterrey, 3.3 percent.

In addition, in the same period from January to June 2019, border tourists totaled 9 million 884 thousand, with a growth of 14.8 percent, compared to the same period of 2018, who spent 617.2 million dollars, 17.5 percent above from the previous year, while its average spending was $ 62.4, which represents a 2.4 percent rise.

In terms of hospitality, at the end of this year around 22 thousand new rooms will have been built, which will increase the inventory to 833 thousand 900 rooms, 2.5 percent more than in 2018. The amount of lodging establishment will reach 22 thousand 230 , 1.9 percent more, which will place Mexico in the seventh worldwide position in hotel infrastructure.

“And, as you all know, in the first quarter of this year tourism GDP decreased 0.8 percent due to, among other factors, that in 2018 the Easter and Easter holiday period was included in this period. But, nevertheless, the consumption of receptive tourism showed a growth of 9.5 percent, ”said the head of the Sectur.

He added that in the tourism project of the present federal administration, our main markets will continue to be cultivated: the United States and Canada, to which the exploration of new markets will be added, through the “Operation Knock Doors” program, especially those with high-cost travelers per capita, “because one of the objectives of the Ministry of Tourism is to increase the collection of foreign exchange, and towards this goal we put our work, to place ourselves, at the end of the six-year term, among the top ten places worldwide currency reception ”.
