Buenos Aires joins UNWTO observatories to analyze tourism impact

Buenos Aires has been the last city to join the International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (INSTO), a pioneering initiative of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) whose objective is to help destinations manage tourism in an intelligent and sustainable way .
This last member of the INSTO - the first in Argentina - brings the total number of observatories of the Network to twenty seven. Joining the INSTO will help the Buenos Aires Tourist Observatory to better monitor the environmental and social impacts of tourism at the local level . The data collected by the Observatory will be used to reinforce the sustainability of the city's tourism sector and will help guide the policies and decisions adopted.
The Observatory has been instrumental in the development of a tourist intelligence system for destinations, which consists of a digital and interactive platform to compile and visualize data from a wide variety of sources. Through this dynamic tool, based on a macrodata infrastructure, the Observatory is transforming information into useful knowledge for the public and private sectors and generating essential empirical elements for tourism planning and management.
"By becoming the last member of our dynamic Network (the INSTO), the city of Buenos Aires once again demonstrates its commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism," says UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili. «Thanks to the pioneering work of the Observatory, Buenos Aires has an empirical basis in its tourism policies and I am sure that our newest member will contribute positively to this constantly growing Network».
