During Q2, 4 million 308 thousand jobs were registered in the Mexican tourism sector. This was reported by Miguel Torruco Marqués, Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, during a meeting with the Revolutionary Confederation of Workers and Peasants.
During the meeting he presented certificates of Labor Competence and certificates of Tourism Courses for workers and workers of the sector affiliated with this organization.
So far this year, the Sectur, through the Institute of Tourism Competitiveness, and the CROC have trained 1,500 hotel and restaurant service providers.
He also announced that, from January to June, foreign direct investment in tourism totaled 507 million 700 thousand dollars.
In the current government, training will continue to be a fundamental element to continue with the growth and development of Mexico's tourism activity, which in the second quarter of this year registered four million 308 thousand direct jobs, 4.3 percent more than in the same 2018 period.
This was indicated by the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, who said that, in absolute numbers, this increase of 4.3 percent represents 178 thousand 730 sources of work, which exceeds 2.3 percent of average growth achieved by the different branches of the economy nationwide during the same period.
Attending this morning to the delivery of certificates of Labor Competence and certificates of Tourism Courses for workers and workers of the tourism sector affiliated with the Confederation of Workers and Peasants (CROC), the head of Sectur explained that so far This year the Ministry of Tourism, through the Institute of Tourism Competitiveness, and the CROC have trained 1,500 hotel and restaurant service providers, of which 557 are women and 518 men, which has come to strengthen the professionalization of Tourism service providers.
This was achieved through the implementation of training programs and development of labor competencies, with the delivery of 32 courses of "Quality in service", "Teamwork", "Tourism Culture" and "Assertive Communication".
"Having 46 labor competence standards linked to tourism activity, and with 2,460 certified service providers is an achievement of which we are participants and, above all, very happy for the sum of wills for the benefit of tourism competitiveness", He said.
With the presence of Deputy Isaías González Cuevas, General Secretary of the National Executive Committee of the CROC, and Soledad Aragón Martínez, Secretary of Labor and Employment Promotion of the Government of Mexico City, Torruco Marqués said that foreign direct investment in tourism during the first six months of the year, it amounted to 507 million 700 thousand dollars, which represents 2.8 percent of the total foreign direct investment captured in the country.
“I am also pleased to inform you that at the end of this year around 22 thousand new rooms will have been built, so we will close 2019 with 835 thousand 400 hotel rooms, 2.7 percent more than in 2018, as well as with 22 thousand 270 lodging establishments, 2.1 percent above last year, ”he added.
He added that in the first six months of this year, the number of border tourists totaled 9 million 884 thousand, with a growth of 14.8 percent compared to the same period of 2018; while the expenditure made by these tourists was 617.2 million dollars, 17.5 percent above the previous year, while the average expenditure was 62.4 dollars, 2.4 percent higher.
