Between January and July North America (2.6%), Central America and the Caribbean (3.2%) lead with a slight increase in visitors to the Caribbean country
The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD), when analyzing the accumulated influx of tourists during the January-July period of 2019, according to the regions of residence, notes that it is observed that 63.1% of visitors arrived from North America , 20.9% from Europe, 11.7% from South America, 4.0% from Central America and the Caribbean and the remaining 0.3% from Asia and the Rest of the World.

Here you can verify a part of the decrease in the arrival of the main tourist market for the Dominican Republic.
The influx of passengers from Central America and the Caribbean presented an increase of 3.2%, for a contribution in absolute terms of 4,375 additional tourists, highlighting those from Puerto Rico with 5,399 additional visitors.
Europe as the issuing region has a cumulative decrease of 49,333 passengers (-6.2%) in the January-July period of 2019, mainly as a result of the reductions experienced in visitors from England (-19,254), Germany (-13,968), Russia (-8,401), France (-5,778), Sweden (-4,664), among others.
In the same order, South America registered a decrease of 27,539 passengers (-6.2%), largely due to reductions in the arrival of travelers resident in Argentina (-22,550), Venezuela (-10,599) and Brazil (-4,978) , which could not be compensated for the increases in the influx of tourists from Chile (4,934), Colombia (3,574), Bolivia (2,143), Peru (1,166) and Ecuador (927).
The BCRD, points out that it is important to highlight that the decrease presented in the influx of foreign tourists is essentially due to the unfortunate media campaign about some unfortunate events occurred to tourists from the United States of America in some hotels in the country during the first half of the year 2019, which caused cancellations in air reservations scheduled by Americans to travel to the Dominican Republic. The economic conditions and low growth of some emitting countries in Europe and South America have also affected.
The arrival of non-resident passengers during the month of July 2019, according to regions of residence, reflects that 57.2% of visitors arrived from North America, 22.4% from Europe, 13.1% from South America, 7.0% from Central America and the Caribbean and the remaining 0.3%, from Asia and the rest of the world. In particular, the countries that stood out most in terms of additional visitors in the month of July were Spain (2,082), France (898), Mexico (743), Trinidad and Tobago (433), Ecuador (427), among others.
