Air connectivity, more opportunities for tourism in Colombia
Between January and June 2019, according to Civil Aviation, 9.7% more national and international passengers were mobilized in the country, than in the same period of 2018
The country continues to stand out on the tourist map as an attractive destination. More and more travelers are interested in knowing their landscapes, tasting the gastronomic offer and appreciating the cultural and historical heritage of their regions.
Undoubtedly, this is the result of the constant work of all tourism actors who have joined forces for the same purpose: to make tourism have a place of greater prominence in Colombia in order to potentiate their wealth and make the world know it, a work that has been strengthened with the change of perception that abroad now have our territory.
One of the aspects that has reported significant growth is related to the country's air connection to international destinations, thanks to the arrival, in recent years, of new airlines and routes.
At the end of 2017, according to ProColombbia, 11 new air routes went into operation, which allowed connecting different cities in Colombia with other destinations in America and Europe. In 2018, the figure was 18; and in the course of 2019, 12 more have been opened.
“There is no doubt that today there is a greater confidence of airlines when arriving at our airports, of international travelers for visiting our tourist attractions and of national tourists for knowing new countries. Having a greater offer means acquiring air tickets at more affordable prices and of course, more opportunities for Travel Agencies to boost their offer with the inclusion of more destinations in their tour packages, ”said Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.
Between January and June 2019, according to Civil Aeronautics, 19,550,115 national and international passengers were mobilized in Colombia, which translates into an increase of about 10%, when compared with the same period of 2018. From this Total passengers, 12.5 million were national, with an increase of 12%, while the number of international passengers transported was 6.9 million, growing 7%, compared to the same months of 2018.
