Mexico seeks to boost the arrival of Chinese tourists
Miguel Torruco traveled to the Asian giant and has met with the vice minister of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Zheng Zeguang
During the first day of his working tour of the People's Republic of China, the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico also met with Qiu Xiaoqi, a former ambassador to our country and a member of the Political Conference of the Chinese People.
He explained to the top officials of that nation that Chinese travelers will find in Mexico great attractions, such as their ancient civilizations, their culture and gastronomy.
In the last six years, the number of tourists from that country traveling to ours has grown at an annual average of 23.3 percent.
Chinese tourists will be able to find in Mexico the millenary past of ancient civilizations, as well as other great attractions such as its culture, viceregal cities and gastronomy, said the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, on his first day of activities of the Work tour that began in the People's Republic of China.
The head of the Sectur said the above at the Mexican embassy in Beijing, where he went to the celebration of the Independence of Mexico, to which high figures from the government of the People's Republic of China were invited.
Before the Vice Minister for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Zheng Zeguang, Torruco Marqués said that the celebration for the Independence of Mexico makes us reflect on the historical and cultural paths that unite Mexico and China.
He explained that the Mexican State finds its starting point on September 15, 1810 with the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla summoning the people of Mexico to fight for their independence; while on October 1 the Chinese people will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
He added that the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has as an objective the economic development of Mexico and the decided impulse to the tourism sector, using the strength of this industry as a tool of reconciliation and social development.
Therefore, he asserted that the constructive capacity of tourism includes an area conducive to peace and harmony between nations.
“For this reason, we extend a cordial invitation to you to find in Mexico the millennial past of our ancient and vigorous civilizations, such as the Olmec, Mayan, Toltec, Teotihuacan and Aztec, among other great examples of cultural, architectural and artistic flourishing that tourists Chinese will know how to enjoy along with the music, viceregal monuments, gastronomy and crafts that Mexico offers to those who visit it, ”he said.
Secretary Torruco Marqués, along with the delegation of state officials and businessmen he leads, arrived this morning in Beijing, where he was received by José Luis Bernal Rodríguez, Mexican ambassador to that nation, and by Enrique Escorza Zamudio, head of the Foreign Ministry in the People's Republic of China. Immediately, Secretary and Ambassador held a coordination meeting.
At noon, he moved to the visiting house of the Chinese government “Diaoyutai”, where he held a working meeting with the former Chinese ambassador to Mexico and member of the Chinese People's Political Conference, Qiu Xiaoqi, in which The Deputy Secretary of Quality and Regulation of Sectur, Humberto Hernández Haddad, as well as Ambassador Bernal Rodríguez and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China also participated.
The Mexican Tourism Secretary recalled that, as general director of the XIII Interdisciplinary Tourism Course of the UNWTO, he met Mr. Xiaoqi and his wife Liu Min in 1983, and in 1985 they organized an academic meeting; In 1986 he went to Beijing to give a conference on tourism and in 2004 he witnessed the signing of the visa agreement between Mexico and the People's Republic of China. Last year they began talks to promote tourism exchange between both countries.
Subsequently, invited by Ambassador Bernal Rodríguez, the head of Sectur went to the Mexican embassy to witness the celebration of the independence of our country, where he held a high-level meeting with Vice Minister Zheng Zeguang.
Secretary Torruco Marqués thus began his work tour of this country, which aims to start the Toca Puertas Program whose goal is to expand the market of Chinese tourists traveling to our country, mainly those with high purchasing power.
