The celebrations of World Tourism Day began this Tuesday (24) in the House of Representatives. The Joint Parliamentary Front for Tourism Defense (Frentur) organized a Solemn Session to celebrate the date, officially set for September 27. Embratur was present and stressed the importance given by the municipality and the Federal Government to the sector.

“Brazil has experienced a period of stagnation in the number of international tourists coming into our territory, but we are not making efforts to reverse this situation as well as to expand our tourist reception numbers without equal, which will certainly drive the economy. in a way that only the tourism industry can provide, ”said Rafael Luisi, Head of Embratur's Strategic Management Advisory.

Luisi, who represented the mayor, Gilson Machado Neto, reported the importance of Congress supporting Embratur in its quest for transformation into an Agency. The measure would facilitate the inflow of resources, which would be directed to the promotion of the sector and the economic recovery of the country.

“The rates of repeat visits to Brazil are very high. In 2018, 68.6% of tourists said they had come to Brazil at other times, while 95.4% said they intended to return. The repeat visit rate is highest among tourists from Paraguay (88.0%), Uruguay (86.9%), Argentina (77.0%), Portugal (76.7%) and Italy (75.4%). ), ”Explained Luisi.

The event was also attended by the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio. He pointed to positive data indicating the recovery in tourist movement in the country. “Between May and July we saw tourism generate 5.8% more jobs for our country. In July, the first month after visa-free travel, foreign tourist spending grew 43 percent from the same period last year, ”he said.

According to the Central Bank of Brazil, in July 2019 US $ 598 million was injected into the Brazilian economy by foreign tourists, compared to US $ 417 million registered in the same period of the previous year.

The President of the Joint Parliamentary Front for Tourism Defense (Frentur), Federal Representative Herculano Passos (MDB-SP), thanked everyone for attending the event. “We saw today the importance of tourism for the country. I am sure that together we will be able to leverage this sector, ”he concluded.
