WTTC highlights strategic role of tourism in the international economy

"In 2018, the tourism industry registered a growth of 3.9%, above the 3.2% reported by the GDP at an international level," said Gloria Guevara Manzo, President and CEO of WTTC

 


The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC, for its acronym in English), stressed the importance of the so-called 'industry without chimneys' for the global economy, because in 2018 it generated a spill of 8.8 billion dollars and reached 319 million jobs worldwide, figures that are expected to have significant growth during the current year.
 
Under the International Tourism Day, the agency emphasized the relevance of the sector worldwide, as it represents one in five of the new jobs created worldwide and is expected to contribute 100 million of additional places in the next ten years, which will allow reaching 421 million sources of work in this field by 2021.
 
“The Travel and Tourism sector is one of the main engines of the global economy; During 2018 it registered a growth of 3.9%, above the 3.2% reported by the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) internationally. With this, the industry added eight consecutive years in expansion, ”said Gloria Guevara Manzo, President and CEO of the WTTC.
 
“For me it is a great pride to be part of this industry, which allows the economic and social development of the countries. I send a congratulation to all the people who contribute to the strengthening of tourism from any trench, among which are: tour operators, airlines, hotel chains, travel agents, transport companies, restaurants and, mainly, the workers that day with day support to create a better industry. I also acknowledge the governments, organizations and authorities that trigger the growth of the sector with the implementation of public policies that favor businessmen, tourists and, above all, the population of their nations. ”
 
The WTTC is an agency committed to the environment, designing high-impact projects for the benefit of the world population, such is the case of the ‘0SCARS’ Action Plan presented in conjunction with the United Nations Organization (UN).
 
At its next World Summit, to be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the participation of public and private sector leaders, as well as academics and representatives of international organizations is expected. The event is expected to help demonstrate the economic and tourist potential of the island, offering an opportunity for entrepreneurs to recognize the possibilities of local investment.
