Brazil and Argentina unite to attract international tourists
President of Embratur, Minister of Tourism of Brazil and Minister of Tourism of Argentina agree to strengthen various tourist sectors and thereby increase the arrival of foreigners to the continent
Argentine Tourism Minister Gustavo Santos proposed signing a Letter of Intent with a work agenda to improve the cruise market between the country and Brazil. The goal is to be presented and signed at the next Mercosur meeting, scheduled for November this year. The idea came from the meeting held on Friday (04), in Buenos Aires, between the Argentine representative, the president of Embratur (Brazilian Tourism Institute), Gilson Machado Neto, the Minister of Tourism of Brazil, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, and Teams. The meeting preceded the holding of FIT Argentina, which will take place from 5 to 8 October.
According to Gustavo Santos, the number of cruises in Argentina has grown exponentially, due to the facilitation of legislation. The minister also suggested that a law be created by mutual agreement between Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, and could go to Chile, so that there is a single route and thus increase the arrival of tourists in the three countries. For him, "if each country has different legislation, complicates the increase or the arrival of tourists." Brazilian and Argentinean representatives should meet with those responsible for the ports of Brazil to jointly address this issue and unlock the bottlenecks in the sector.
During the meeting, another topic discussed was Brazil's participation in the Global Tourism Economy Forum 2019 (GTEF), which will be held in Macau (China). Embratur President Gilson Machado Neto suggested the joint presence between the two South American countries, in order to increase Chinese interest in the region. Argentina grants a 10-year visa to tourists from China, in addition, they give electronic entry permits to Chinese citizens who already have a US or Schengen visa.
“It is with great enthusiasm that we debate the possibility of having reciprocal visas between Brazil and Argentina for the Chinese. By releasing for this tourist, Argentina saw the number of Chinese doubling in just one year. In 2018, they welcomed 90,000 tourists from China to their tourist destinations, ”said the president of Embratur. Argentina currently offers electronic visas to 76 countries.
President Gilson Machado Neto presented another old demand of Argentine tourists visiting Brazil. He stressed the importance of integration between police and other border control agencies, as tourists wait up to 8 hours to cross from one country to another.
“We must facilitate border traffic so that tourists do not waste so much time in the migration process. I also suggest that we make a Letter of Intent with the possibility of breaking down the barriers that exist on this topic. There are international standards that Brazil has adhered to, but Argentina does not, in both cargo and passenger transportation, ”said the representative of Embratur.
On the air network, the theme of the conversation was about the opening of the heavens between the two nations. In the view of Brazilian representatives, there is no need to expand the frequency of flights, but rather the consolidation and strengthening of what already exists, which can be 180 direct flights.
Embratur's president, Gilson Machado Neto, asked Minister Gustavo Santos for support for the holding of a major publicizing event in Brazil next year, which should be promoted in front of Casa Rosada. The Argentine minister pledged to present the proposal to the Government of Buenos Aires.
“We are the two strongest countries in South America, together we receive about 14 million tourists. We believe in integrated countries because we can multiply the number of visitors by 2 or 3. A great example we have is Foz do Iguaçu and Puerto Iguaçu, with 500 thousand tourists in common. If the border were eliminated, these numbers would increase much more. There is a qualitative study of the main emissive destinations for Argentina. The Falls are stronger than Patagonia, ”emphasized Gustavo Santos.
