Feast of the dead in Mexico will leave a spill of 2 billion pesos

In 2018, almost 2 million people attended along the way and the authorities are confident that this year the number will increase

The next celebration of the “Day of the Dead”, which will be recorded from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 November, will leave an economic spill in the country, just for accommodation, of 1,899 million pesos, said the Secretary of Tourism of Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués.

When speaking about the tourist expectations for those three days, the head of the Ministry of Tourism said that 744 thousand national tourists are expected to go on a trip through the country and stay in a hotel, which will cause the average occupancy rate in Accommodation centers reach 64 percent.

By attending the presentation of the “International Parade of the Dead 2019”, Secretary Torruco Marqués said that, according to the projections, this event will generate a hotel occupancy of 87.5 percent in Mexico City, by encouraging 85 thousand tourists to come to the capital of the country and hire a hotel room; the estimates indicate that only for lodging the expense of the travelers will amount to 85.6 million pesos.

In summary, the “International Parade of the Dead” and the Day of the Dead bridge will move 829 thousand tourists to hotel rooms, which will generate an average occupancy of 75.8 percent and an economic spill of 1,985 million pesos.

He added that in total they estimate that the parade will be attended by more than 2 million people along its route, which will generate an economic spill of 546 million pesos for different consumptions related to the event.

With the presence of Carlos Mackinlay, Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City; Paola Félix Díaz, general director of the Mixed Tourism Promotion Fund of the capital; and of Victor Hugo Romo, Mayor of Miguel Hidalgo, the head of Sectur indicated that the parade, organized by the Tourism Promotion Fund of Mexico City, will take place on October 27, at 2:00 p.m., the which will have the slogan: "A gift of songs and flowers from Mexico to the world."

He said that, with a route of 5.2 kilometers, he will start in the Zócalo, to continue along the street of 5 de Mayo, Avenida Juárez, Paseo de la Reforma, Avenida Chapultepec and Polanco. The official parade will end in the Estela de Luz, but the procession will continue to Polanco with the pushcarts.

Secretary Torruco Marqués said that this will be the fourth consecutive year that the "Day of the Dead Parade" will be held in Mexico City, in which 10 giant puppets and more than a thousand volunteers will give life to the characters.

Finally, he recalled that on November 7, 2003, the Mexican celebration of “Day of the Dead” was named by UNESCO as Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity; and that last year this parade brought together almost 2 million people in the streets of the metropolis and was seen by more than 10 million viewers.

The presentation was also attended by Deputy Ana Patricia Báez, president of the Tourism Commission of the Congress of Mexico City; José Suárez del Real, Secretary of Culture of the capital government; Francisco Fernández Alonso, president of the National Chamber of the Restaurant of Restaurants and Spiced Food; and Nathan Poplawsky, president of the National Chamber of Commerce of Mexico City.
