Viva Aerobus reported positive results for 2019
The airline has closed 2019 with the highest annual passenger growth in the sector and the youngest fleet in Mexico
Viva Aerobus, Mexico's ultra-low-cost airline, established itself as the fastest-growing airline in terms of passengers in 2019 by achieving a 20% increase compared to 2018. In this sense, Viva managed to exceed its record of Annual customers with the preference of more than 12 million passengers and with an occupancy factor of 88%, one of the highest in the industry.
This annual number of passengers, unpublished for the airline, was framed in an expansion characterized by the incorporation of 8 new Airbus A320 aircraft during the year and the addition of 23 routes to its portfolio of services. In this way, Viva Aerobus closed 2019 with 118 routes and 36 aircraft with an average age of 3.25 years, reaffirming its fleet as the youngest in Mexico. As a result, Viva Aerobus capacity, measured in available seats per kilometer, between January and December 2019, increased by 25% compared to the same period of 2018.
"The increase in our fleet, capacity, supply and passengers distinguished 2019 as a year of historical expansion for Viva. We are very grateful to all the travelers, whose confidence allowed us to transport more than 12 million people; that is more than all the population of countries like Cuba, Greece or Bolivia, ”said Juan Carlos Zuazua, General Director of Viva Aerobus.
This growing preference of passengers was a constant in all the months of 2019, with a double digit increase being recorded on each occasion. Also, a new milestone was established for the airline last year: Viva Aerobus managed, for the first time in its history, to transport more than one million passengers per month. This brand became a trend to be obtained in June, July, August, October, November and December, that is, in the middle of the months of the year.
“We started 2020 with this positive inertia and we will continue moving forward with new routes, the arrival of our first Airbus A321 and innovations that enrich the experience of all our customers, as we did with our flight auctions; always backed by a solid business model that allows us to offer the best prices, ”said Gian Carlo Nucci, General Director of Grupo Viva Aerobus.
