Almost half of foreign tourists who visited Peru are millennials
According to a study by PROMPERÚ, this segment had an average expenditure of $ 971
Almost half of foreign vacationers who visited Peru in 2018 were millennials (47%), said the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PROMPERÚ).
The study prepared by PROMPERÚ, through Turismo In, revealed that the average expenditure of this type of vacation was $ 971, with young people from Latin America spending less ($ 494). It is important to indicate that Latin America is the area where more travelers of this generation come from.
The regions that visited the most were Lima, Cusco and Puno, and the total of all the transfers in national territory represented 1.2 million trips. This shows a clear growth of this segment in the tourist destinations of Peru.
Due to its characteristics, millennials choose to vacation in Peru because it is an ideal destination for adventure tourism, connecting with nature and enjoying its cultural wealth. The activities they do most are trekking, visiting archeological sites and nature reserves.
It is important to specify that this generation, made up of 2000 million people worldwide, covers those born between 1979 and 1994. For this reason, PROMPERÚ is implementing new strategies so that travelers belonging to this segment stay longer knowing the benefits of the South American country.
77% bought tourism, lodging and food services separately, while 23% bought a tourist package. In the first case, the average expenditure was $ 832.
On the other hand, people who bought a package had an average cost of $ 1437: 86% was destined to purchase the tourist package and 14% allowed them to cover "additional expenses".
On the other hand, 4 out of 10 millennials who bought packages to organize their vacations did so online, while the remaining 6 carried out the procedure in person at an agency. Likewise, 68% had the Internet as the medium that most influenced the decision to travel to Peru.
Through this profile, PROMPERÚ provides information focused on the millennial generation, which will help the service providers in the sector know their characteristics and needs.
