Barceló launches a post-Covid-19 plan of measures
The Spanish hotel chain seeks to strengthen the protection of its customers, employees and suppliers through security, health and hygiene protocols on its properties
Barceló Hotel Group launches We Care About You, a post-Covid measures plan to reinforce the protection of its clients, employees and suppliers through safety, health and hygiene protocols at the reopening of its hotels.
It is an initiative based on the health and safety recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the competent authorities of each country. A plan that will be in constant adaptation to the local health context in order to offer maximum security while maintaining the focus on allowing guests to enjoy the best experience during their stay. A priority for Barceló Hotel Group in its almost 90 years of history.
We Care About You includes a series of standards and protocols in addition to all the security and protection measures that the company had integrated into its usual protocols to offer greater peace of mind and security to clients and collaborators. The program includes measures focused on sanitizing and disinfecting rooms and common areas, technology to support protection, as well as new specific protocols in restaurant areas and other services offered by hotels.
For its creation, the chain has set up an internal Technical Commission that has the advice of professionals with experience in other countries affected by various epidemics and of its regular collaborators in the field of health security.
Check in with the mobile phone and open contactless rooms:
One of the measures that the group plans to reinforce in the reopening of hotels is the use of technology to support protection. To do this, numerous processes will be digitized that, in addition to improving the customer experience, will allow the guest to manage certain aspects of their stay, minimizing contact between people whenever possible.
The objective is that the guest can use the Barceló Hotel Group app from their own mobile device to complete check-in and check-out without going through reception, opening the door of their room, requesting services offered by the hotel, searching for information on the establishment reducing the use of paper, and even managing the home automation of your room to open curtains or turn on lights, minimizing contact, in hotels that allow it.
Periodically verified reinforced safety and hygiene protocols:
Barceló Hotel Group is evaluating incorporating into hotels the figure of the hygienist, person responsible for the application of strict cleaning protocols with hospital-grade disinfectants and disinfection procedures by air for areas of difficult access. The protocols of constant ventilation with natural air will be reinforced and climate control adjustments will be carried out, minimizing the air speed and reorienting the exits. In addition, the chain plans to have stations with hydroalcoholic gel, disposable gloves and disinfecting wipes in common areas.
Regarding specific practices in the restaurant areas, the restaurant service will continue to be offered, taking specific measures of capacity management, such as the definition of a seating protocol and the extension of hours to avoid crowds. Additional measures will be taken, such as the reduction of decorative elements and cards, as well as the disinfection of crockery and cutlery. The buffets will also continue to operate in assisted mode, with security measures to prevent the handling of food and high-contact surfaces by customers.
Likewise, the room service will be served with sustainable disposable materials, and the ‘Grab & go’ modality will be offered, allowing food to be ordered through the mobile application.
For leisure and entertainment services, the offer will be specifically adapted to comply with the new hygiene measures, promoting individual kits of materials for group activities for adults and children, capacity management and specific measures to guarantee safety, appointments spaced in wellness services and definition of access and exit routes to water areas to avoid crowds.
Barceló Hotel Group plans to remove barriers and doors to facilitate traffic and reinforce signage so that guests maintain the minimum recommended distance. All employees will have at their disposal protective equipment that they will always use according to the instructions of the health authorities.
All these procedures will be verified by periodic audits carried out by internationally recognized external companies (BIO9000, Biolinea and Biolab for hotels in Europe, Africa and Asia; and Cristal International for hotels in Latin America).
These measures aim to guarantee a safe working environment for employees and suppliers of the hotel chain, as well as offering an experience that responds to the current needs of its clients and fulfills the main objective of the Barceló Hotel Group: to make guests feel at home. better, and safer, than at home.
