President of Mexico reaffirmed the start of work on the Maya Train
This work that will benefit five states in the southeast of the country will generate at least 80 thousand jobs this year
A press conference was held today in Cancun, Quintana Roo. There Mexican President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador made important statements on various topics, including the construction of the Maya Train.
"Starting today, we are going to give banners for the start of the construction of the Maya Train to benefit Tabasco, Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo," said AMLO.
The president affirmed that this work will be fundamental for the economic reactivation of the country since in 2020 and 2021 they will generate 80,000 and 150,000 jobs, respectively.
López Obrador reported that there will be 4 sections for the Palenque-Escárcega, Escárcega-Campeche, Campeche-Mérida and Mérida-Cancún construction. This month the fifth stretch Cancun to Tulum will be tendered.
Quintana Roo will have two sections of said work: the first from Valladolid to Cancun and from Cancun to Tulum. The opening of the five sections will be in 2023.
The President also announced that the revival of the tourism sector in Cancun will be the second week of June.
The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico MiguelTorrucoMarqués participated in the conference. The official stated: "Total, national and international tourism consumption is 173 billion dollars, of which, domestic tourism represents 83%, so this segment will be given the greatest importance in the recovery of sector".
