RIU launches a new healthcare service
RIU Protect has been developed with the support of AXA XL and the advice of Mercer Marsh Benefits. The chain will offer medical assistance to its guests, including those derived from the possible contagion by Covid-19
The RIU Hotels & Resorts chain presents RIU Protect, a new service for its clients that, among others, provides medical assistance to its guests, including contagion by Covid19 during their holidays. It is a unique and differentiating product, designed with the insurance backing of AXA XL and the advice of Mercer Marsh Benefits, with which the hotel chain wants to offer extra security to its customers when they start their vacation trips during this crisis caused due to the Covid pandemic. 19.
Access to this service will be very simple. When booking with RIU through its website or Call Center, the customer automatically receives this service. This measure will be in force for reservations made from June 16.
“In these uncertain times we want to offer our clients all the security and tranquility that is in our hands. Therefore, when booking, they have the option to cancel or make changes free of charge until April 30, 2021. Once at the hotel, the operation will be guided by the RIU Manual for the Post-Covid hotel, which has with 17 safety and hygiene protocols. And now, we also add this new service to offer them an extra piece of peace of mind, since in the event of a possible contagion from Covid-19 or from any other medical cause, they will also be cared for and well cared for at no additional cost to them, "says Luis Riu, CEO from RIU Hotels & Resorts.

The service offered by RIU will cover, among other eventualities, medical, surgical, hospitalization and emergency medical transfer, with up to 30,000 euros per guest; also the extension of stay for the members of the reserve for medical reasons, up to 14 nights; as well as the repatriation of the guest for medical reasons and the return tickets of the members of the reserve for the same reasons.
RIU Hotels & Resorts had to close its 99 hotels in 19 countries during the month of March due to the health emergency. The chain has already started its recovery process with the opening of hotels in Berlin, Guadalajara (Mexico), Miami, Cancun and Bulgaria. As well as it has planned new openings in the coming weeks in Spain, Portugal, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica or Costa Rica.
