Amadeus announces Global Rate Code to help healthcare professionals
So far 4,700 hotel chain properties have joined, including some like Hyatt, Best Western, Magnuson, Marriott, Premier Inn, Red Lion and Louvre
If there is something that we can highlight as positive about the health crisis, it is the solidarity shown by the tourism industry. Below we share a post edited by Katja Bohnet, Director of Hotel Distribution, Hospitality, Amadeus where she explains the initiative they have launched:
The COVID-19 pandemic has forever changed the lives of people in every community and in every country. Health professionals around the world have remained at the forefront of this crisis, working long hours to fight the virus, often at high risk to their health and well-being.
As COVID-19 cases continued to rise, my fellow Amadeus wanted to support these health fighters - doctors, nurses, and care team staff.
Our approach was based on several factors. We know that many medical workers need to be close to work, and many of them have decided to take extra precautions with their families by staying away from home. They also need a space to rest outside of their workplace. There are also medical equipment and personnel that transport supplies and material to other cities and need accommodation during their trip. Our travel agency clients, particularly corporate travel clients, asked if we could create a global rate code that would help some of their clients in the medical sector. This inspired us to help.
Our teams from Hospitality and Travel Channels worked together to create the global rate code H24 to make it easier for hotels to discount or completely eliminate the rate for medical workers through business and leisure travel agencies serving their medical institutions. Amadeus is also offering more support by eliminating reservation fees for transactions using this global fee code. So far, 4,700 hotel chain properties have joined, including some like Hyatt, Best Western, Magnuson, Marriott, Premier Inn, Red Lion, and Louvre.
My colleague Wolfram Schmidt, who is responsible for hotel sales for our segment of corporate travel agencies and is a key driver of this initiative, shared these words with me: “I am very happy with the adoption of this program to facilitate accommodation as much as possible for medical workers around the world. Any hotel or accommodation provider can use the global rate code and any travel agency that works with a hospital or medical institution with front-line employees can use the code when they reserve a room for them. The global rate code will be valid until the end of June, so we encourage everyone to use it. ”
At Amadeus, we work with many companies across the travel industry, from start-ups working to launch and grow their business, to major airlines, hotels and travel agencies around the world. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with our clients and through our own businesses to support those who need it most.
Thank you to hotel and hospitality providers and travel agencies that have already participated in the program, and we hope that others will join it.
