Tour operators and travel agents will be the key piece to resume tourist flows from Latin American countries to Mexico, which in the new normality offers travelers the highest safety and hygiene measures, which add to the quality and warmth that characterizes Mexicans.
The foregoing was affirmed by the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, when he headed this morning the virtual seminar "Hotels for Mexico, beyond the new normal", in which Luis Barrios, president of the National Association of Hotel Chains (ANCH) and President of Hoteles City Express; Alex Zozaya, executive chairman of the Apple Leisure Group; and Jorge Apaez, chief operations officer of Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) Mexico and Latin America.
Hundreds of tour operators, travel agents and representatives of the tourism industry also took part in the event, to whom the head of Sectur explained the situation that the Mexican tourism industry is experiencing today and the actions that the Ministry of Tourism is taking out to start your reopening and reactivation process.
Secretary Torruco Marqués was emphatic in pointing out that tour operators and travel agencies play a strategic role in this activity, since they are a fundamental factor in marketing the tourist offer of a destination.
He argued that they are the main promoters of tourism and specialists in the sector, since they have the knowledge and experience, they know the destinations and the products, and therefore, they are the ideal intermediaries to design a trip tailored to the customer, offering you a unique and unforgettable experience.
"You will be the key piece to resume tourist flows from Latin American countries to Mexico, which in the new normal state is waiting to welcome its visitors with open arms, offering the highest security and hygiene measures and a unmatched service with the quality and warmth that characterizes Mexicans, "he said.
He commented that during the last year the tourist activity in the country walked very well and was growing in its various indicators, with a record of 45.2 million international tourists, nine percent more than in 2018, of which 16 percent came from Central America, the Caribbean and South America, ranking us seventh globally, according to the scale of the World Tourism Organization.
Likewise, in terms of income, Mexico captured 24,563 million dollars, which also represented an increase of nine percent and a contribution of 8.7 percent to the national Gross Domestic Product, as well as the generation of 251 thousand new direct jobs, to add a total of 4.4 million jobs, in addition to more than six million indirect jobs across the country.
“In terms of hospitality, we achieved the goal of building 22,000 new hotel rooms, thereby achieving an infrastructure of 830,000 rooms, three percent more than in 2018; and a little more than 23 thousand lodging establishments, which also meant growth of three percent, consolidating us in seventh place worldwide, ”he said.
