WTTC launches campaign to raise awareness on the use of masks
The World Travel and Tourism Council invites travelers to wear face masks on all their trips, according to the recommendations of the Harvard University School of Public Health
As countries move from blockades to reopening their borders, the use of face masks will help promote safer travel by providing personal protection to users and those around them.
"The WTTC recommends the use of masks. The countries that are recovering the fastest and avoiding the second peaks of COVID-19 are those where the use of face masks has been widely applied and encouraged, ”said Gloria Guevara Manzo, President and CEO of the WTTC.
"Following Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the WTTC advises the use of masks in all forms of transportation, throughout the trip, and at all times during their tours in different destinations, as well as maintaining a healthy distance, "she said.
Guevara Manzo said the WTTC encourages travelers from around the world to join the social media campaign that is being launched with the hashtag # Wear2Care. "The WTTC has called on governments around the world to promote the use of face masks, and to request the support of the private sector to remind customers of their obligations to protect their health and that of other travelers," she added.
Adopting the use of face masks will reduce the risk of transmission, protect the user and those around them, as we learn to live with the virus until a vaccine for health care is found.
Frequent hand washing and the use of disinfectant gel complement the use of face masks that can significantly reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission.
The WTTC considers that the safety and hygiene of travelers and those who work in the travel and tourism sector is of utmost importance, so we recommend that masks be mandatory.
The # Wear2Care campaign promotes the protection of tourists and workers in the travel and tourism sector through the use of face masks, which will help save lives and encourage the return of Safe Travels.
Wearing masks should be a part of everyday life to ensure everyone enjoys traveling safely until a vaccine for COVID-19 is found. The WTTC called on the private sector and governments to encourage its use.
Ramon Sánchez, researcher at Harvard University, T.H. Chan School of Public Health noted that “wearing face masks has been shown to provide the highest level of protection against transmission at 82 percent. Consistent hand hygiene and surface cleanliness, which kills more than 90 percent of viruses found on surfaces, also prevents the virus from reaching the face from the hands. ”
The WTTC has led a series of initiatives designed to rebuild global consumer confidence and encourage the return of safe travel, such as hygiene protocols in establishments, as well as the Safe Travel Seal.
The well-being of travelers and the millions of people who work in the travel and tourism sector is essential. In addition to having the backing of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), they were also widely welcomed by thousands of companies from all over the world.
