Argentina promotes the reactivation of cruise tourism

During the month of August INPROTUR held meetings with the International Association of Cruise Lines and MSC Cruises with the aim of generating a common work agenda

Looking ahead to the coming months, the National Institute for Tourism Promotion (INPROTUR) plans different strategies to continue positioning the Argentine tourism brand at the highest level.

In this way, the INPROTUR team, headed by its Executive Secretary, Ricardo Sosa, in the last days of August held important meetings related to Cruise Tourism with the aim of promoting the resumption of this important activity for the national receptive when the sanitary conditions allow it.

One of the meetings was with Marco Ferraz, President of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) for South America. “We agreed with CLIA to generate a work agenda focused both on the short term, in favor of facilitating the exchange of information with shipping companies and interceding in the facilitation of inter-institutional negotiations for the prompt reactivation of the cruise sector, and in the long term. deadline to promote Argentina through an active accompaniment to the private sector and the development of commercial, institutional and promotional strengthening actions, ”said Sosa.

Also noteworthy is CLIA's support to INPROTUR to promote new ports and destinations in Argentina to be marketed by shipping companies in the near future.

The meeting with Javier Massignani, Managing Director of MSC Cruises, also happened. The focus of the meeting was to learn about the company's plans for the 2020-2021 season and analyze the health protocols so that passengers can travel without any problem.

It should be noted that the activity oriented to Cruise Tourism has developed very strongly in recent years in Argentina - during the 2019-2020 season, more than 755 thousand travelers were registered in this way - and this is demonstrated by the different ports, highly prepared.

The Quinquela Martín terminal in Buenos Aires, with almost 13 thousand square meters and a capacity to receive 15 thousand passengers per day, is one of the most recognized in South America. 488 thousand foreign passengers passed through here last year

Puerto Madryn - in the province of Chubut - has shown sustained growth in this area, which is reflected in its Luis Piedrabuena and Almirante Storni docks. With 94 thousand passengers, it concentrated 12 percent of international tourists last year.

Ushuaia, in addition to being the city of the End of the World, is the gateway for cruise ships traveling to Antarctica. 174 thousand foreign passengers arrived in the Fuegian capital last year.
