Inguat presents actions for the reactivation of tourism 2020-2021
In order to continue with the work aimed at the gradual reopening of tourism, the Guatemalan Tourism Institute presented the strategies that include actions in the short and medium term
Mynor Cordón, General Director of INGUAT expressed “In the first place the actions that we are carrying out under the reactivation strategy are aligned to motivate internal tourism, which will spread in a spiral with visits to local, departmental, interdepartmental, national attractions, regional (such as El Salvador, Honduras and southern Mexico) and finally international. Efforts will be focused on attracting tourists to enjoy the natural and cultural benefits of the country, contributing to the economic spill and the development of the communities ”.
Within the pillars of the reactivation, INGUAT has worked on a Tourism Biosafety Seal, which consists of a distinctive that will be awarded to companies in the sector such as: lodging establishments, tour operators and tourism guides that implement the Good Guides Practices for the prevention of COVID-19 and other infections, complying with an established procedure. Interested companies must follow the process that will be published as of September 16 on the page www.inguat.gob.gt
Service providers who wish to obtain the Seal must be formally registered with INGUAT and free of fines or sanctions from the institution. Additionally, they must download the membership form, terms and conditions to apply to the process. They should also fill out the evaluation with the requested objective evidence and then send it to the regional office of the institute. After this, a verification of the file will be carried out in said offices; If the file meets the established criteria, the central team performs a final verification and follow-up on the interested companies to grant the distinction.
Cordón added, "The health and safety factor is increasingly relevant in the new normal and when choosing a destination it is important for us, from the tourism governing body, to promote strategies that contribute to the tourism sector so that responsibly corporate and social, the hygiene protocols that we have been promoting since the beginning of the pandemic are promoted and implemented and be prepared for the reactivation. "
Regarding the promotion of internal tourism, in follow-up to the campaign "Your house awaits you", a promotional campaign will be carried out under a strategy of encouraging responsible visits to tourist destinations on weekends. This strategy will be launched at the end of September. In addition, the tourist offer will be promoted on the electronic portal www.paseoguatemala.com where you can already find more than 400 packages, 1,300 hotels and more than 100 tourist routes.
Currently, awareness messages continue "Tourism is Sustainable Development", with the aim of generating awareness, both for the country's communities and for the visitor, and that they can measure the importance of tourists for the economy and as an engine that generates development, work, opportunities and that directly and indirectly impacts those who live around this noble industry.
Among the other actions that are planned, we can highlight the virtual fair called "Expo Holidays GT", which will seek to reactivate the economy of tourism service providers through online sales. The participation of 100 companies in the tourism sector is estimated, including tour operators, hotels and artisans. Additionally, tourist packages will be promoted and special promotions will be included exclusively for the event.
Another key action is the planning of 4 virtual business rounds with Guatemalan service providers, as well as with 14 travel agencies and wholesalers from regional markets and 4 presentations of tourist routes to Guatemalan tour operators.
As regards international tourism, the sector will be supported with accompanying actions and promotional campaigns, promoting the segments most related to the new tourist. Also, an accompaniment will be provided to the segment of destination meetings and weddings for the retention and search of new congresses, events and nuptials scheduled for the end of 2020 and 2021, all this will be carried out in conjunction with a work agenda that will be established with FUNGUAT and the Bureau of Conventions.
