UNWTO Secretary General visits Brazil and reaffirms the recovery of tourism
Zurab Pololikashivili visits Rio de Janeiro to encourage the return of activities and attend projects for the development of the sector
The Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, and the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashivili, visited Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro this Monday (11/16). The delegation, which was received by the rector of the Cristo Redentor Sanctuary, Omar Raposo, visited the Corcovado Chapel and took a photo in front of one of the greatest icons of world tourism. The UNWTO agenda in Brazil aims to promote the responsible resumption of activities and discuss projects for the development of the sector, such as the installation of the first office of the World Tourism Organization in Latin America.
For Minister Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, the visit of the highest representative of the WTO is historic and reinforces the importance of Brazil to the world. "Brazil is a country with practically infinite beauties and that needs to be better disseminated not only in domestic tourism, but also in international tourism so that the world can discover this tourism potential," he declared. During the ceremony, the minister thanked the WTO Secretary General for being present. “Zurab, it is my pleasure to welcome you here. Brazil welcomes you like Christ: with open arms ”, he said.
Álvaro Antônio also highlighted the moment in Brazil, which increasingly points to an understanding that tourism is an important engine for the generation of employment and income for our country. If we have such great potential, such wonderful attractions and a hospitality that exceeds 95% approval from foreign tourists, we are very excited to know that tourism can, in the coming years, turn all this potential into reality: a reality . generating employment and income Tourism will undoubtedly contribute to the resumption of Brazil's economic agenda ”, he commented.
The Secretary General of the WTO, Zurab Pololikashivili, highlighted the joy of being in Brazil to align development actions in the sector and stressed that the country is a safe destination to visit. “It is a very exciting day for me, for us. It is a very emblematic place for tourism where we are now (Christ) and, after what we have lived through in recent months, we are here to give the message to everyone that you can travel with responsibility and safety. Brazil is ready to receive tourists ”, he emphasized.
During the event, the Secretary General praised the work carried out by the Minister of Tourism and President Jair Bolsonaro. “I appreciate your support, your energy, the work you are doing with the president to support the tourism sector. We will continue working to improve and give more opportunities to Brazilians to work with tourism ”, he concluded.
