According to ANATO, the situation of Colombian agencies is still complex
According to DANE's Quarterly Sample of Travel Agencies, during the third quarter of 2020, the nominal revenues of Travel Agencies presented a reduction of 90.2% compared to the same period of 2019
According to the same study, between January and September 2020 the nominal income of Travel Agencies registered a decrease of 70.9% compared to the same period of 2019.
In relation to their nominal income, there was a decrease in July 1991, 9%, in August 94.4% and in September 83.7%. When comparing September with August, they are 10.7 percentage points higher, taking into account that it was the month where the economic reactivation began.
The situation of Travel Agencies is not alien to the national reality, since, according to the latest results published by DANE, GDP during the third quarter of 2020 presented a reduction of 9% compared to the same quarter of 2019. In addition, between January and September 2020 the fall was 8.1% compared to the same period of the previous year.
“These figures demonstrate the impact our industry has had on account of the pandemic. However, from the moment in which the air and land connection was reactivated, the reopening of national and international destinations, and the implementation of the tourism biosecurity protocols, it has been seen how the desire to travel of the Colombians remain. For them, we continue working on creating unique experiences, always based on their safety ”, explained Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.
On the other hand, according to the MTAV, during the third quarter of 2020 the employed personnel of Travel Agencies presented a reduction of 26.2% compared to the same period of 2019. And when compared with the variation of the second quarter of 2020 (17 , 9%), there is a drop of 8.3 percentage points, so employment is a situation that did not improve during this period.
"We hope that with the help of the National Government and the Congress of the Republic, by including the Agencies within the PAEF Program, our companies will continue to move forward and the figures for the fourth quarter show an improvement," concluded the union leader.
As the Association has been stating, the Tourism Law is a strategy that, with the work of the Government, trade unions and other entities, will open the doors to a consolidated reactivation of the sector and a recovery of the figures of the travel industry and the Agencies.
