Anthony Mahler is the new Minister of Tourism of Belize
He was appointed by the newly elected Prime Minister after the country's general elections, held on Wednesday, November 11
Minister Mahler is fully committed to the work ahead. In his first meeting with staff from the Ministry of Tourism and the Belize Tourism Board, he gave words of encouragement and reiterated his commitment to working in partnership with all stakeholders to restore the industry. “We are committed to the recovery of the tourism industry after the devastating hit of COVID-19 to the economy. Our priority is to support tourism businesses and jobs and restore traveler confidence. We must stimulate travel demand to Belize despite COVID-19, "said Minister Mahler," and we must remain optimistic. "
Other areas of focus under Minister Mahler's administration include tourism product development, training, and continuous innovation and transformation towards more sustainable and resilient tourism development models. Minister Mahler is also committed to developing a meaningful structure to engage the Belizean diaspora. The Border Management Agency is also part of its portfolio.
Previously he was Director of Product Development at the Belize Tourism Board, then moved to Speednet Communications Limited as Director of Marketing, before being elected to the House of Representatives. Minister Mahler holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, a Graduate Certificate in Financial Analysis from the Master's Program, a Certificate in Strategic Management from the Tuck Institute at Dartmouth, and has worked in managerial capacities both in the public sector as in private.
