To obtain the award, administered internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and nationally by the Institute of Environmental Law of the Dominican Republic (IDARD), the beaches are subjected to a rigorous evaluation. The National Blue Flag Jury, made up of representatives of the Ministries of Environment, Tourism, Education, Public Health, ASONAHORES, National Aquarium, CIBIMA, Civil Defense, CONADIS, the National Competitiveness Council and the Propagas Foundation, is in charge of verifying compliance criteria in the applicable beaches.
As the National Coordination of the Program, IDARD reported that a total of 24 beach segments have been internationally recognized as Blue Flag for the 2020/2021 period in the Dominican Republic.
