March 09, 2021

The online meeting takes place from March 9 to 12, open to professional visitors from the industry

As part of the actions that seek to contribute to the recovery of tourism and the positioning of the country in potential world markets, the Guatemalan Tourism Institute -INGUAT- together with businessmen from the tourism sector represent the country in a virtual edition of the ITB international fair Berlin

Given the global health context, the organizers decided to hold the meeting in virtual mode, which will allow the country to develop appointments, create a network of potential buyers in which Guatemalan businessmen expose the country's offer and services without traveling to the event. In addition, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Commercial Counselor, bilateral meetings of the tourism authorities have been arranged to discuss issues related to the sector.

The Director General of INGUAT, Mynor Cordón explained “This is a window of opportunity to position ourselves as a destination and promote Guatemala as a safe country to visit that complies with all the procedures and sanitary regulations necessary to create a safe experience for tourists and that they can enjoy the best outdoor attractions, of which Guatemala has great potential in these spaces ”.

On this occasion, 13 entrepreneurs from the tourism value chain participate, including two representatives of lodging establishments, two wholesale travel agencies, nine tour operators with the accompaniment of General Director Mynor Cordon and his team of directors.

As a point of reference and to analyze the importance of this fair for tourism in Guatemala, during 2019, German tourism meant the visit of 19,533 tourists with an average stay of 11.88 days and an average daily expenditure of US $ 111.56, leaving around US $ 28 million to the national economy.
