Inguat invests to improve tourist facilities in San Benito Petén
The Director General of INGUAT, Mynor Cordón stated: "We are delivering a renovated space in which local, national and international visitors will be able to enjoy the wonder of Lake Petén Itzá"
In order to carry out joint programs and projects that contribute to the dissemination, rescue and enhancement of the country's cultural and natural assets, the Guatemalan Tourism Institute -INGUAT- together with the municipality of San Benito Petén completed the work and carried out the official inauguration of the works carried out in the sports and recreational park "La Ermita" in said municipality.
The Director General of INGUAT, Mynor Cordón explained “We are delivering a renewed space in which local, national and international visitors will be able to enjoy the wonder of Lake Petén Itzá that can be seen from this place and thereby contributes to the Consolidation and Diversification axis of the Tourist Offer of the Master Plan for Sustainable Tourism of Guatemala 2015-2025, facilitating recreational spaces and thus providing visiting options for tourists ”.
In the agreement 04-2019, the guidelines for cooperation between the Institute and the municipality in question were established for the maintenance, operation, renovation, decoration and cleaning of this place. The design guidelines respond to the criteria of integration with the environment, sustainability, accessibility, durability, economy and image of the natural landscape.
The works executed in the project are:
- Two piers, one of them, which is located in La Ermita park, which has a pergola;
- Lighting installation and maintenance of existing facilities.
- Improvement of the sentry box, field, pergolas and kiosk.
- Maintenance of sanitary services. Pavements and curbs;
- Urban furniture that includes benches, children's games, exercise machines, among others.
Recently, the Municipality of San Benito, along with seven other communes in Petén, joined as Ambassador of the Tourism Biosafety Seal of INGUAT and Safe Travels, who prepare themselves as a safe destination to provide safe experiences to their visitors.
