Language tourism opens a space at FITUR LINGUA

FITUR LINGUA will take place in a technical session for professionals, on Friday, May 21, where the important value of this segment in our country and the potential represented by our cultural, linguistic, landscape and historical wealth will be addressed for Spain to become a world leader in the field of language tourism

Madrid, March 23, 2021.- Language tourism is defined as the set of educational, social and cultural activities that people carry out in another country, with the main purpose of learning the language of the place they visit. A segment with great growth potential, in which the Spanish language plays a leading role, and which aims to generate large flows of tourist movement in the coming years, favoring new business opportunities for operators, companies, institutions and destinations.
In this context, and in its vocation to contribute to the revitalization of the tourism industry, FITUR will present in its next edition "Special Recovery Tourism", from May 19 to 23, the new space FITUR LINGUA, organized in collaboration with FEDELE, Federation Spanish of Associations of Schools of Spanish for Foreigners, with the aim of generating a meeting point between professionals in the tourism industry and the main actors in language tourism, which are schools for teaching Spanish as a foreign language in Spain.
As a start to this first 2021 edition, FITUR LINGUA will take place in a technical session for professionals, on Friday, May 21, in which FEDELE and different personalities from the sector will present the important value of language tourism, with a focus on the position of Spain in the international arena and in the potential represented by our cultural, linguistic, scenic and historical wealth for Spain to become a world leader in the field of language tourism.
And it is that the Spanish language is spoken by a total of 580 million people, 7.6% of the world population, according to data from the Cervantes Institute yearbook, which makes it the second mother tongue in the world by number of speakers . In addition, it is studied by 22 million people in 110 countries, and it is the third language on the internet. The rise and projection of Spanish is growing and the interest in its study an increasingly notable reality in countries such as Germany, India, China or the United States.
This is also revealed by the data provided by all the federated centers that attracted a total of 138,589 students to our country, whose spending amounted to approximately € 236,987,000 (without flights). With year-on-year growth of 9.93%, we are facing an expanding sector and a new way of doing tourism: learning Spanish as a foreign language.
