Iberojet inaugurates non-stop route Madrid - Cozumel
The airline begins operating the new flight on July 1. In this way, the destination recovers direct connectivity with Europe after 15 years
During the virtual press conference offered by the Federal Secretary of Tourism (SECTUR), the inauguration of the Madrid - Cozumel air route with the Evelop company was announced, which, as of May, changes its trademark to the Iberojet name . This flight takes place within the framework of the tourist reactivation that Quintana Roo promotes for all destinations in the Mexican Caribbean and that on this occasion it will be the Island of Cozumel that receives, after an absence of almost 15 years, a flight from the European continent .
According to Darío Flota Ocampo, general director of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo, "this flight was agreed from FITUR 2020, however, due to the pandemic, it is until now that it materializes, thanks to the anticipated accelerated recovery" . He also commented that they will collaborate jointly with the airline in the dissemination of the flight and will work hand in hand with the Cozumelan authorities to guarantee the permanence of the route in the itineraries. Spain is the second largest source of European tourists to Mexico, so the arrival of this flight means a considerable advance in the increase of international tourist flows.
For this 2022 the arrival of around 80,000 Spanish tourists in the State is estimated, the highest season being during the months of June to September. It is important to note that the health security conditions for tourists are guaranteed, due to the actions that the state and municipal governments have applied, the Cozumel International Airport being one of the safest in the country.
The frequency and equipment with which the Iberojet flight will operate from July 1, will be weekly using an Airbus company aircraft, model 330-300 with capacity for 388 passengers and operating at departure times from Barajas Airport in Madrid at 15:30 and arriving at 18:40 at Isla de las Golondrinas; and leaving the Spanish capital at 8:40 p.m. and arriving at 1:30 p.m.
