The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico reported that the transactions carried out exceeded 67 million dollars, according to the exit survey provided to the participants, although the majority preferred not to inform about it.
He affirmed that digital platforms are consolidating as a powerful tool that gives the tourism value chain an unbeatable scope and visibility for the commercialization and promotion of products and services.
Óscar Pérez Barros, Secretary of Tourism of Sinaloa, pointed out that the state made more than 1,300 business appointments, in addition to the participation of its 18 municipalities to publicize its comprehensive tourism offer.
The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, accompanied by the Secretary of Tourism of Sinaloa, Óscar Pérez Barros, in a virtual press conference announced the results obtained in the second edition of Tianguis Turístico Digital, which was held held on 23 and 24 of this March:
- 16 thousand 94 registered business appointments.
- 1,679 buyers from 1,141 companies.
- 61 countries participated, including Mexico, representing an increase of 16 nations compared to the first edition, that is, 35 percent more source markets.
- 238 exhibitors from the 32 states of the country.
- 2,817 attendees to the inauguration and seminars.
- One thousand 807 files uploaded to the platform and 16 thousand 827 documents downloaded.
- 67 million 500 thousand dollars, estimated amount of the transactions carried out, according to the exit survey provided to all participants.
The head of Sectur specified that this amount is not comparable with that reached in the first edition, because in the exit survey applied, which is voluntary, forty percent of the exhibitors and seventy percent of the buyers decided keep confidentiality about this item. These opinion polls also show that ninety percent of the participants are willing to take part again in the third edition of the event, next year.
Likewise, the secretary Torruco Marqués specified that the most visited stands were the Maya-Fonatur Train; the cities of Mazatlán and Culiacán, in Sinaloa; Puerto Peñasco, Sonora; Valladolid, Yucatan; Los Cabos, Baja California Sur; and Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo; and the states of Sinaloa, Yucatán, Puebla, Guerrero, Morelos, Aguascalientes, Michoacán, Guanajuato and Querétaro.
Regarding companies, Grupo Vidanta, Grupo Posadas, Xpertus, Fiesta Americana, Live Aqua, Hotel Fairmont Mayakoba, Amigo Yucatán and City Express hotels, among others, stood out.
"There is no doubt that the Digital Tourism Tianguis responds to the needs and demands of a new reality, which requires greater innovation and creativity from tourism, as well as a more sustainable vision, fundamental aspects for a faster reactivation and economic recovery of this industry" , He said.
He reiterated that this business meeting is here to stay and become an efficient marketing and promotion alternative, capable of generating important and productive business for the tourism sector in Mexico.
He pointed out that the use of the internet became more relevant during 2020, since, according to a recent report by “We Are Social” and “Hootsuite”, world agencies specialized in management, interaction and analysis of social networks, there are little more than 316 million new Internet users in the world, bringing the number of Internet users to 4.66 billion people, almost sixty percent of the world's population.
He added that, in the case of our country, this same study indicates that there are 92.1 million Internet users, through any device, this is around 71 percent of the total population.
He recalled that in the Ministry of Tourism, since the beginning of the health crisis, a series of actions have been undertaken to disseminate and promote tourist destinations both nationally and internationally, among which are also the Tianguis de Pueblos Mágicos, which will be held in the last four months of this year, with the state of Hidalgo as host; and the 45th edition of the Tianguis Turístico, the most important event in Mexico and Latin America in terms of tourism, which will take place in Mérida, next September.
He recognized tourism service providers for trusting in this new promotion strategy, especially in times as complicated as the ones we live in today. "Without their support, this initiative would not have been possible," he said.
Likewise, he thanked the Governor of Sinaloa, Quirino Ordaz Coppel, for his support and willingness to make this second edition successful; as well as Rodrigo Hurtado, coordinator of the Tianguis Turístico Digital.

For his part, the Secretary of Tourism of Sinaloa, Óscar Pérez Barros, representing Governor Quirino Ordaz Coppel, said that for Sinaloa, the host state of the second Tianguis Turístico Digital, all expectations were exceeded.
He explained that they made more than 1,300 business appointments through various channels, in addition to the participation of their 18 municipalities to publicize their comprehensive tourism offer, with the presence of the entire tourism sector in the state. "In total, we had 51 tourism representatives doing business," he highlighted.
He highlighted that the promotion of tourist experiences such as the “Chepe Express Route”, its four Magic Towns, the “Évora Route”, the nine Stately Towns, the Mazatlan tourist offer and the Culiacán business experience were carried out. the next summer season and long weekends.
