Once again, Panama joins the commemoration of the worldwide movement known as Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID 2021), after a year of virtual meetings, events and congresses, where we express our commitment under the slogan "MEET SAFE" (safe meetings) in search for the speedy recovery of this segment of the industry and its on-site activation, on which thousands of jobs depend. According to Tourism Economics, an Oxford Economics company, this item generates an average daily expenditure per tourist of US $ 613 dollars, permeating the entire value chain of services, not only tourism.
Attractive and reliable destination
Panama is one of the most attractive destinations for this segment of the tourism industry due to the connectivity, dollarized economy and different benefits and tax incentives provided to companies that choose the country for their events.
As an international destination marketing organization (DMO), PROMTUR Panama has continued to promote the destination for international congresses, incentive trips and associative events, hand in hand with the blue, green and cultural heritage routes, priority products of the Tourism Master Plan Sustainable 2020-2025 of the ATP, the basis on which the positioning and differentiation strategy of Panama as a tourist destination rests.
Fernando Fondevila, general director of PROMTUR Panama, highlighted the incentive program offered by the DMO, indicating that its main objective is to attract and attract international events, allowing Panama to compete as a venue in a highly attractive way. "Out of a score of events to which our destination aspires, 11 have already chosen Panama as the venue to be held in person between July 2021 and 2024, following the protocols and biosafety measures approved by the Panamanian authorities," said Fondevila.
The Administrator of the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP), Iván Eskildsen highlights the value of this industry, ensuring that our country implements biosafety protocols in accordance with the highest international standards, highlighting that the priority is to guarantee the welfare of the industry collaborators and visitors.
As a responsible and supportive industry, representatives of the sector recently presented the Biosafety and Distancing Protocols of the Events and Meetings Industry, which have the approval of the health authorities and comply with the corresponding regulations to guarantee the safety of the attendees.
Luis Ricardo Martínez, president of the Panamanian Association of Professionals in Exhibitions and Related Congresses (APPCE), reiterated the commitment of this union that joins a single voice to apply the best practices for the safety of each of the visitors in the meetings that take place in Panama. He stated that "face-to-face relationships mean business for economies and the invaluable value of knowledge that guides changes in the socio-economic development of each destination through meetings."
"It is time to speak out and seek creative ways and innovate in the way people come together to ensure success in each meeting, promoting closer relationships and involving the authorities as part of the solution. Martinez pointed out.
Meetings and business events are coordinated well in advance and the fruits are reflected throughout the value chain, from venues, hotels, shopping centers, tour operators, restaurants and even artisans in the interior of the country.
