Chile strengthens tourism alliance with Colombia
Both Andean countries come together to participate in virtual business meeting
Starting today and until Friday, April 23, a series of business rounds between Chile and Colombia is being carried out in a virtual way, an initiative called Business Meeting, the purpose of which is to strengthen the bilateral trade of the exportable supply of both countries and that for the first time includes tourism as a relevant economic activity.
It is for this reason that the national director of Sernatur, Andrea Wolleter, participated in the opening day of this event organized by ProChile, who highlighted the importance of the Colombian market for our country, since Chile has managed to position itself as a destination with great tourist attractions, especially natural ones.
In this regard, the tourism authority stated that “we want to stay in the minds of Colombian travelers. For this, we have worked systematically in recent years in this market and with very good results: only between 2014 and 2019, we had a positive variation of more than 148% in the number of tourist arrivals from that country to ours. ”.
In this same sense, Andrea Wolleter added that “the rise in these figures was strongly conditioned by the incursion and capacity of new airlines that lowered prices and, therefore, generated an increase in supply, a scenario that will be a challenge to achieve once we promote the recovery of the sector when the sanitary conditions of both countries improve and allow us to resume ”.
Virtual business rounds between Chile and Colombia
The Chile-Colombia Business Meeting is the main activity that ProChile will carry out in this market and hopes to become a space that allows promoting and bringing the offer of Chilean goods and services closer to the Colombian buyers.
The commercial director of ProChile in Colombia, Marcela Aravena, explains that “if we are interested in strengthening commercial relations between Chile and Colombia, tourism cannot be absent: it is an important actor, especially if we want to advance in the economic reactivation of our countries. In recent periods, the movement from Chile to Colombia has been growing, this is also reflected in connectivity, Colombian entrepreneurs and tourists have a greater possibility of connecting with our country. We hope that this flow will stabilize very soon ”.
Until this Friday, April 23, the virtual meeting considers — apart from the business rounds — activities, such as a pitch for Chilean companies with technological solutions (fintech, healtech and agtech), seminars on e-commerce, innovation, indigenous peoples and tourism , in addition to Instagram lives to promote Chilean food in Colombia, among other actions.
During this week, national exporting companies with export potential will be able to learn more about this market and meet with relevant Colombian buyers to increase and diversify their exports to this important economy in the region.
Representing Chile, 44 businessmen will participate, including national and regional tour operators, tourism product agents and representatives of the four airlines that operate the route: Avianca, Latam, JetSMART and, soon, SKY Airlines, who will have the opportunity to meet with Colombian counterparts from the sector, either to open options in Colombia or to deepen its alliances with local actors, especially as part of the recovery actions of tourism activity.
